Montebelluna brings together archaeological collections, natural history and astronomy with sacred art and historic sites. These varied themes offer you a useful starting point when choosing Montebelluna as a destination for your stay.

Museums: from archaeology to astronomy

The Museo di Storia Naturale e Archeologia di Montebelluna presents archaeological collections spanning a long period, from prehistoric times to the Roman Imperial period. The museum also documents 90 percent of Veneto’s freshwater fish fauna, providing a valuable record of the region’s fish population. Archaeology and natural history thus offer two distinct perspectives on the region.

The Sala Astronomia focuses on something different. An interactive helioplanetarium there shows the inner solar system, with Earth, Venus and Mercury represented to scale. While the archaeological collections cover different periods, this installation focuses on three planets. The Museo della Fondazione Sportsystem adds its own history to the museum scene: it was founded in 1984, completely renovated in 2024 to mark its 40th anniversary, and is a district museum.

Commemoration and historic sites

The MeVe Memoriale Veneto della Grande Guerra is located in Montebelluna (TV), in the Villa Correr Pisani complex, which later became the Memoriale’s home. An interactive and multimedia venue, MeVe explores the conflicts and events that have shaped recent history since the First World War. Digital elements, immersive installations, video documentation and sound design shape the way visitors engage with the subject.

The Chiesa di Santa Maria in Colle is also closely linked to Montebelluna’s history: until the mid-20th century, it was the town’s religious centre; its importance as a parish church dates back to the mid-14th century. Its surviving features include a ceiling decorated with a fresco by Francesco Fontebasso, 17th-century altars, a wooden choir dating from 1679 and a double organ designed by Gaetano Callido. Artistic design and church history come together here.

The history of the Mercato Vecchio dates back to a diploma from 1157. In it, Frederick Barbarossa confirmed to Bishop Ulrich the duty on goods for consumption in Montebelluna Castle. The site later developed into an important commercial crossroads in an area stretching from Feltre to Treviso.

Traces on Montello and local produce

The Fontana Militare was built by the Genio Militare to water the troops and draught animals serving the Montello front. This function was particularly important during the Battle of Solstice, from 15 to 23 June 1918. The La Tradotta route follows the former Montebelluna–Susegana railway line, which was built for military purposes. These two sites point to different aspects of military history: supplying the front and the railway line built for that purpose.

You can find another local speciality at S’Infiora Fattoria Bio in Biadene di Montebelluna. The farm shop sells the farm’s own honey, including single-variety acacia honey, produced in May in the acacia woods of Montello. Here, the product, the time of production and the landscape all go together.

If you are looking for a hotel in Montebelluna, you can plan your stay around the themes that interest you most: natural history and archaeology, astronomy, sacred art or historic traces. These differences offer a practical starting point for choosing your destination.
