Discover Lentiai: Art, Trails and Nature
Accommodation in Lentiai
Lentiai brings together sacred art, historic connections to the area and walks through the landscape. If you are looking for a hotel, you can tailor your stay to the focus of your trip: Santa Maria Assunta and other cultural sites, a trail linked to local history, or nature experiences on foot. The 800-metre Sentiero dei Capitelli Affrescati and the walk to the Laghetti della Rimonta are very different from the Anello Monte Garda along the ridge.
Art and Architectural History
The Church of Santa Maria Assunta is an Italian national monument. Inside is a large polyptych—a multi-panel painting—created by Tiziano Vecellio together with his workshop. Vecellio personally painted Saint Tiziano. The furnishings also include a wooden coffered ceiling with twenty painted panels. They depict scenes from the life of the Virgin Mary according to the Gospels and the Apocrypha. Thus, a multi-panel altarpiece and a series of painted ceiling panels come together in one church interior.
Trails with Cultural Connections
The Sentiero dei Capitelli Affrescati is 800 metres long and connects Lentiai with the hamlet of Colderù. Along the trail are ten wayside shrines painted by contemporary artists. Their symbolic references relate to local traditions and crafts. The shrines offer a different focus from the single polyptych: a series of works along the route connecting two places. Another artistic attraction is the hermitage of Eremo di San Donato, which houses old frescoes. It is set in woodland above Ronchena and Lentiai. While the shrines are contemporary works, the frescoes point to an older pictorial tradition. Villa Pantz, in its present form dating from the 16th century, adds an architectural dimension to these sites.
Walks and Nature
The Anello Monte Garda runs along a ridge through pastures and meadows that are covered with daffodils in spring. In winter, the route can be walked on snowshoes. There is a picnic area along the Anello at Capitel de Garda. Spring blooms and winter snowshoeing mark different seasonal aspects of the same trail.
The walk to the Laghetti della Rimonta starts at the Lentiai sports ground and heads towards Bardies along the right bank of the Rimonta stream. As an easy, relaxing walk, it is also suitable for small children. Birds, amphibians, reptiles and insects can be observed in the Laghetti area; with a little luck, deer may also appear. The focus differs between the two: the Anello highlights the ridge and seasonal aspects, while the Laghetti offer an easy walk and the possibility of wildlife watching.
Local Dairy Products
The Latteria di Lentiai also broadens the picture beyond art and trails. It was founded in 1884 as a private dairy and produces butter, ricotta, and fresh and aged cheeses. Its founding provides a historical connection, while its products give Lentiai’s culinary scene a tangible focus.
