Viewpoints and nature
From the summit of Monte in Parco del Colle della TrinitĂ , the view extends across the Corciano area to Lake Trasimeno; on a clear day, its green islands are visible. From the Belvedere on Itinerario 1, you can look out over the hills around Lake Trasimeno and, on a clear day, see its islands. Together, the two viewpoints offer views across the Corciano area to the lake and a perspective on the hills around it.
On Monte Malbe, Troscia del Melo is considered one of the most important ecosystems because of its biodiversity. Alongside the viewpoints, visitors can also discover this remarkable natural area.
Hiking trails and excursions
Anello M19 is a moderately difficult hiking trail on Monte Malbe. It passes through the mountain’s historic and natural landscapes and, among other places, leads to Eremo di San Salvatore. This provides a specific destination for hikers who want to combine scenery and cultural heritage.
Monte Malbe has five hiking trails marked on site, as well as the Sentiero Fantastico. The latter is specially designed for children, families and people who want to discover nature in a playful way. The trails have different focuses: Anello M19 is described in terms of its level of difficulty and route through historic and natural landscapes, while the Sentiero Fantastico focuses on playful nature experiences for the stated audience.
Parco del Colle della Trinità has a children’s playground and woodland paths for hikes, as well as cycling and walking excursions. The park therefore offers both a place to play and paths for different kinds of excursions.
Museums in Corciano
The Antiquarium in Corciano opened in 2009 and is divided into a palaeontological section, a prehistoric and protohistoric section, and an archaeological section. It displays Mesozoic ammonite fossils from Migiana and remains of Quaternary mammals from Ellera. The collections thus bring together different periods and find locations.
The Antiquarium also displays reconstructions of two princely chariots. The chariots on which the reconstructions are based were found in April 1912 near Castel San Mariano, in a tomb dating to the 6th century BC. The museum’s archaeological exhibits therefore also include reconstructions of this tomb find.
The Museo della Casa Contadina in Corciano documents the rural culture and economy that prevailed there until a few decades ago. Four typical rooms depict this way of life: a kitchen, a bedroom, a pantry or storeroom, and a cellar and workshop. A wooden loom, together with accessories for weaving and spinning, adds to the collection. The rooms and loom thus show both domestic life and craftsmanship.
Historic townscapes and crafts
The medieval castle of Corciano is surrounded by a high wall. Within the complex are lanes, stairways, palaces, towers, gardens, churches and bell towers. The townscape thus encompasses a variety of features within the walled complex.
The village of Solomeo, with its castle and narrow lanes paved with terracotta bricks, lies within the municipality of Corciano. In Solomeo, the Scuola di Arti e Mestieri offers courses in modelling, women’s tailoring, cutting and men’s tailoring, mending and repairing knitwear, horticulture and garden maintenance, as well as masonry. Topics range from design and textile work to garden care and masonry.
