Discover Seano: Art, Routes and Traditions
Accommodation in Seano
Seano offers several starting points for planning your trip: sculptures, historic architecture, routes, and recurring markets and festivals. If you’re looking for a hotel in Seano, you can decide whether to focus your stay on art, architectural history, routes or event dates. Each topic also involves different details that may be important for your plans.
Art and Opening Times
The Parco Museo Quinto Martini is a three-hectare green space with 36 bronze sculptures by Quinto Martini. In addition, Casa Studio Quinto Martini is open by prior appointment on the second and fourth Saturday and Sunday of each month, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. If you’re planning a visit to Casa Studio, keep to these opening hours and make an appointment in advance.
Pieve San Pietro: Architectural History in Detail
Pieve San Pietro in Seano is an early medieval parish church. A document issued by Otto III on 25 February 998 names it as a church recognized by the Bishop of Pistoia. Its façade was extensively redesigned in 1928; it features a portal and two biforate windows in the neo-Romanesque style. The lower section of the masonry consists of regularly cut sandstone blocks and dates from the 12th to 13th centuries. Different periods of history therefore come together at the church: the lower masonry dates to the Middle Ages, while the extensive redesign of the façade dates from the 20th century.
Routes Along the Torrente Furba
The Anello della Furba circular route starts at the car park of Parco Museo Quinto Martini. After Ponte Nero, it follows the more natural stretch of the Torrente Furba, characterised by bends and stone weirs. Le Vie dell’Acqua, by contrast, is designed as a nature, culture and historical-artistic trail; its first section runs alongside Parco Museo and continues beyond Casa Studio. The route descriptions therefore highlight different aspects: the Anello specifies its starting point and stream section, while Le Vie dell’Acqua is also described in terms of nature, culture and history. If you’re including routes in your plans, you can take these different focuses into account.
Markets and Festivals in Seano
La soffitta in Piazza takes place in Seano on the second Sunday of every month, except in August. Campagna in piazza is a market for organic and natural products; it takes place on the third Saturday of every month from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The two markets therefore take place on different weekends. If you’d like to plan your trip around a market, take note of the relevant day and, for La soffitta in Piazza, the August exception.
The festivals also have different rhythms and themes. The Festa del Crocifisso di Seano honours a wooden crucifix behind the main altar of the Church of San Pietro. Every five years, it culminates in a historical procession featuring 250 participants in costume. The Festa della battitura reenacts the grain harvest and grape harvest every year. Thus, the annual harvest and grape-harvest reenactment contrasts with a procession held every five years. If a festival is a key factor in your travel plans, check the specific date in advance.
