You can discover Buchignano through its named trails and cultural heritage sites. The Via del Lucente passes through the village; other routes include Buchignano in connections between hamlets and in the Traversata delle Frazioni Camaioresi. When planning your trip, it is worth distinguishing the named trails by their destinations: some connect several hamlets, while others lead from Buchignano to a named destination or pass by a cultural heritage feature.

Hiking trails and landscape

The Via del Lucente passes through Buchignano and formerly connected Camaiore with the Mediavalle del Serchio via the Passo del Lucese. This brings together the trail’s local connection to the village and its historic route beyond the pass.

The La Pieve–Buchignano trail is one of the valley-floor and mid-slope trails of Monte Prana. A network of trails between Monte Prana and Monte Gabberi also connects Buchignano, Torcigliano, and Gombitelli. This offers a choice between different aspects: the terrain of the first trail and the connections between villages along the network.

On the C9 trail of the Traversata delle Frazioni Camaioresi, olive groves, vineyards, and holm oak and chestnut woods alternate in the hilly hinterland; the trail passes close to the Pieve di San Giovanni Battista e Santo Stefano before continuing on to Buchignano.

By comparison, the Via del Lucente is known for its historic route over the pass and through Buchignano; the C9 is defined by the sequence of landscapes in the hilly hinterland and its close connection to the Pieve. The two named routes thus differ in their respective historical and landscape features.

The Trekking delle Frazioni Camaioresi also passes along Buchignano. An unnumbered trail leads from Buchignano to the village of La Prata. On the trekking route, Buchignano lies along the way; on the unnumbered trail, it is the starting point and La Prata is the destination.

The Giro XC - Camaiore - Anello Lucente - Candalla cycling route runs from Buchignano along the slopes of Monte Prana. On the circular walk via Buchignano and Agliano Peralla, there are opportunities to refill water in every village along the way; Lucese can be reached by taking a detour. Before relying on these options, check whether they are available when you visit.

Cultural heritage in Buchignano

The Oratorio di Maria Santissima delle Grazie is an architectural heritage site. The Chiesina di Buchignano is one of the cultural heritage features along the local trails. The Oratorio is notable for its architectural classification, while the Chiesina is notable for its connection to the local trails.
