Spital Bei Yfän (Ospedaletto) lies at the mouth of Val Bronzale, in an area surrounded by vineyards. The village is known for the pine forests of Val Bronzale. Nature reveals itself on different scales: from tree species and undergrowth plants to the distinctive microclimates of the municipal area. There are also individual cultural and natural attractions, which differ in theme from a general impression of the landscape.

Forests, Plants and Microclimates

The south-facing part of Ospedaletto is predominantly covered by pine and beech trees. Various mushrooms grow in the undergrowth, especially russulas and chanterelles, as well as cyclamens and alpine flowers, which can be seen on walks. This draws attention both to the tree species and to the smaller diversity on the forest floor.

In the northern part of the municipal area, on the slopes of the Asiago Plateau, major winter temperature fluctuations point to distinctive natural features. The sparsely populated areas are of significant botanical and natural history interest because of their varied flora and fauna and local microclimates. In the south, the focus is mainly on forests and undergrowth, while the northern part is characterized by its distinctive features associated with winter temperature fluctuations.

Cycling Path and the Brenta

The cycling path in Ospedaletto is considered one of the main attractions in the municipal area. If you plan to use it, check the route infrastructure locally before your trip. The Ponte Casoni area on the Brenta River is clearly visible from the Valsugana cycling path on the opposite bank. The Brenta is also a destination for many recreational anglers. Cycling and fishing offer different activity highlights: one centers on the cycling path, the other on the river.

Culture and Distinctive Natural Attractions

The Chiesa della Madonna della Rocchetta is a cultural and historical highlight. It was built before 1650 and later restored; its interior decoration is by Nazareno Barcatta. According to a local legend, the Madonna appeared to a shepherd who was deaf and unable to speak, and healed him. The story should be distinguished as a legend from the information about the church’s construction history.

The Ponte dell'Orco is considered a natural monument and a spectacular dolomitic arch. The Sentiero dell'Orco leads to the Ponte dell'Orco and can be reached from the Chiesetta della Rocchetta in the municipal area of Ospedaletto. This identifies both a specific natural attraction and an accessible starting point for the trail.

The Grotta della Bigonda is another natural attraction: in Ospedaletto, it is designated as a Special Area of Conservation (SAC) IT3120135. The Grotta della Bigonda in the surrounding area has more than 27 km of passages and around 50 underground lakes and siphons. The arch and the cave represent two different facets of nature: a striking rock formation and a vast underground world.
