Lenzumo: History and Routes

A chapel dedicated to Saint Sylvester has been documented in Lenzumo since 1537. Other points of interest range from military history sites to pastures and alpine meadows, as well as hiking and cycling routes. In winter, when there is snow, the cross-country ski trail in Val Sorda is another option. The destinations vary not only in focus but also in starting point, route length and seasonal conditions.

Historic Sites and Routes

Rifugio Bocca di Trat – Nino Pernici was inaugurated in 1929 on the ruins of First World War barracks. Along the First World War route near Lenzumo, La Rocca can be reached on foot from a mountain hut in about 15 minutes. Trail conditions can vary. Doss de le Fratte is an Austrian military position with trenches and a bunker carved into the rock; check local access conditions.

Below Mazza di Pichea, observers used a position during the First World War to monitor Val Concei. The hike to Galleria Riccabona leads to First World War fortifications below Mazza di Pichea. When planning your trip, you can therefore distinguish between two aspects: the historic use of the position and the route to the fortifications.

Hiking, Snowshoeing and Public Transport

The starting point for the Cima Pari hike is at Malga Trat, about 6 km above Lenzumo in Val Concei. The route information dates from 2017; check access and trail conditions again before setting out. The Giro delle baite di Concei leads to the pastures, huts and alpine meadows of Concei. Individual facilities may vary by season.

For the snowshoe route to Rifugio Pernici, there is a car park near the church in Lenzumo. Check local parking regulations before driving, as parking arrangements may change. For the Giro delle baite di Concei hike, Lenzumo is the nearest public transport stop; from there, it is 4 km on foot. Lenzumo is also the nearest stop for the Giro delle cime – metà percorso route, from which it is 3 km on foot to the starting point. The walk after getting off the bus is therefore 1 km longer for the Giro delle baite di Concei. The Ledro Valley is served by interurban bus route 214 between Riva del Garda, the Ledro Valley and Storo. Check the route and stops again before travelling.

Cycling and Seasonal Conditions

The Tour della Valle di Ledro passes through Pieve di Ledro, Locca, Enguiso, Lenzumo, Località Al Faggio, Lenzumo, Enguiso, Locca, Bezzecca, Località Derco, Tiarno di Sotto, Tiarno di Sopra, Passo Ampola, Lago d’Ampola and the cycle path. The route is 43 km long and has an elevation gain of 715 m. The Rifugio Pernici Trail tour climbs near Lenzumo along the road towards Bocca di Trat and Rifugio Nino Pernici. Cycling conditions and surface conditions can vary.

In winter, when there is snow, Val Sorda becomes a cross-country ski trail. Whether it is open depends on snow conditions and operating conditions. This is a different focus for your trip planning than the historic routes and hiking trails: cross-country skiing depends on the conditions that winter.
