Dimaro combines a distinctive location between the Meledrio and Noce rivers with local history and trails in Val di Sole. If you’re looking for a hotel in Dimaro, you can choose what to focus on during your stay: the landscape, cultural history, or activities that vary with the seasons.

Location between the Meledrio and Noce

Dimaro lies at the foot of an alluvial fan between the Meledrio and Noce rivers. The peaks of Sasso Rosso surround and protect the valley basin where Dimaro and Carciato are located. The rivers, peaks and shape of the valley provide the landscape with its distinct points of reference.

Church and Ecomuseo

On the route from Dimaro town center to Carciato stands the east-facing Church of San Lorenzo. It was certainly in existence by 1264 and was rebuilt in the 15th century. Its location along the route and these two historical dates place it within the development of the town.

The Ecomuseo Val Meledrio is an open-air museum in the municipality of Dimaro Folgarida and the Adamello-Brenta Nature Park. Outdoors, it presents the valley’s historical and cultural experiences. The route begins in the town of Dimaro, at the local church. The Ecomuseo also offers guided visits to Val Meledrio, during which the old hammer mill and Venetian sawmill are put into operation. These visits are scheduled for Tuesday and Friday afternoons in July and August; check the specific dates before your trip.

Traces of the history of craftsmanship

In connection with the Fucina di Dimaro, 28 hammer mills operated in Dimaro in the 16th century. Most were located in the Meledrio valley, in an area known as “Fosinace,” the old smithies. The number and distribution of the mills show the place this craft history held in the town at the time.

The Segheria Veneziana di Dimaro is on the edge of town; its existence can be traced back at least to the beginning of the 19th century. The historic center is also home to Palazzo del Dazio. The Teatro Comunale di Dimaro has more than 300 seats and adds a local venue for events to these historic points of reference.

Trails and seasonal activities

In summer, Dimaro offers trekking, cycling and rafting. In winter, activities include skiing, snowshoeing and ski mountaineering. The options listed therefore differ clearly by season: summer activities include hiking, cycling and water sports, while winter activities are centered on snow.

The 35-kilometer cycling and walking path in Val di Sole follows the Noce River, crosses the meadow plain and leads to Dimaro. Its gentle gradient makes it suitable for families and children. The Rafting Center in Dimaro offers rafting and hydrospeed, providing a specific water-sports activity in the town.

When choosing between hotels in Dimaro, you can first consider whether you’re most interested in the area’s cultural history, the route along the Noce, or seasonal activities. The historic sites and the different summer and winter options offer distinct points of reference to help you decide.
