Bagheria offers a range of options for a stay: Baroque villas and museums, Parco di Monte Catalfano, and access to the sea on Sicily’s Tyrrhenian coast. If you’re looking for a hotel in Bagheria, you can first decide whether architecture and art, nature or the coast will shape your stay.

Baroque Villas and Museums

Villa Palagonia is considered the foremost emblem of Sicily’s suburban Baroque architecture. It was built in 1715 as a place for relaxation and a summer retreat. It is best known for its bizarre monster figures: from 1747, Prince Francesco Ferdinando Gravina e Alliata commissioned sculptors whose names are unknown to create the statues. The villa is visited mainly for these figures.

Villa Sant’Isidoro De Cordova dates back to 1648. Its enfilade-arranged interior rooms are reached via a monumental staircase. An enfilade is a sequence of rooms arranged one behind another. Portraits of the family’s ancestors hang in the reception rooms. Thus, the sequence of rooms and the portraits are the focus at this villa, while Villa Palagonia is distinguished above all by its statues.

Villa Cattolica was built in 1736; since 1973, its piano nobile has housed the Museo Guttuso. Since 2004, the museum has also included a permanent exhibition of film poster art, with more than 400 donated film posters. They can be seen year-round in the outbuildings of Villa Cattolica. Another museum offers a different theme: one of the aims of the Museo del Giocattolo e delle Cere “Pietro Piraino” is to encourage children’s intercultural education.

Opening Hours and Reservations

Villa Palagonia is open to the public every day, including public holidays, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Last admission is 30 minutes before closing each time. A private guided tour can be booked on request. Check the opening hours before your visit and allow for the last admission time.

The S.U.T.E. at Palazzo Butera is the first point of contact for tourist assistance. If you need help there, check the opening hours before your visit. A telephone reservation is required to visit Casa Museo Villa Sant’Isidoro De Cordova; call 331 158 1081. Confirm whether this reservation requirement is in effect before your visit.

Park and Coast

Parco di Monte Catalfano covers approximately 274 hectares above the built-up area of Bagheria. Its trails are considered moderately easy to easy and are suitable for people with some physical training. The route is accessible by car as far as halfway. The park’s area and the trail ratings offer two different points of reference for planning: the size of the park and the stated physical requirements.

Cala dell’Osta, popularly known as Cala delle Tre Piscine, is a seaside access point for Bagheria on Sicily’s Tyrrhenian coast. The rocky seabed at Cala delle Tre Piscine is suitable for snorkeling and diving. Check sea conditions locally before planning these activities.

Sfincione and Local Tradition

Sfincione closely connects Bagheria with Palermo’s culinary tradition and is considered a symbol of local popular cuisine. The Sfincione Festival revolves around this dish and features live cooking demonstrations, tastings, activities, entertainment and performances. If you’d like to include the festival in your travel plans, check the event dates. This lets you make culinary tradition a distinct focus alongside the villas, museums and excursions in nature and along the coast.
