If you are looking for a hotel for a stay in Lingua, different local and coastal themes can help you choose what to focus on. Archaeological remains, a range of museum connections and two beach stretches described in different ways offer concrete starting points for planning your trip.

Laghetto and nature in Lingua

The Stagno di Lingua is the only wetland in the Aeolian Archipelago. The Laghetto di Lingua is designated as a Special Protection Area. Both facts make nature an important part of finding your way around Lingua.

Submerged remains of an ancient Roman-era salt-production facility are preserved on the bed of the natural Laghetto di Lingua. Here, a specific location, the facility’s former function and its historical period are linked. The Laghetto thus offers both a connection to nature and an archaeological perspective on salt production.

Museums and historical connections

The Museo Archeologico on Lingua’s museum route displays finds from the Bronze Age village of Portella. Together with the Roman remains on the bed of the Laghetto, they offer a comparison across time: Bronze Age finds alongside evidence of Roman salt production. The two connections differ in both period and form.

The Museo Etno-antropologico is housed in a building dating from the first half of the 19th century. A historic olive press, a stone grain mill, a traditional oven and a furnished bedroom have been preserved there. The focus here is on a historic house and the objects preserved inside it—different from the archaeological collection at the Museo Archeologico.

The Museo del Mare e del Sale is located at the Faro di Punta Lingua. The museums can therefore be distinguished by their specific features: archaeological finds, preserved furnishings in a 19th-century house, and the location of the Museo del Mare e del Sale at the Faro.

Two beaches, different features

The Spiaggia del Lungomare di Lingua is a pebble beach with medium-sized stones and shallow water. While snorkeling, you can observe various organisms typical of shallow coastal areas. Sea conditions may vary.

The Spiaggia del Porticciolo di Lingua is a small beach with sand and small pebbles. The seabed is also made up of pebbles and sand and is rich in small fish. The main difference between the two stretches lies in the features described: at Lungomare, the focus is on pebbles and shallow water; at Porticciolo, on the mix of sand and pebbles and the fish-rich seabed.

Finding your way between Lingua and Santa Marina

A footpath connects the centre of Santa Marina with the Lingua district. This gives you two specific reference points for finding your way: the town centre and Lingua as a district. If you choose Lingua as the focus of your stay, this connection can also help you see it in the wider municipal context.
