If you’re looking for a hotel in Uri, you can choose your destination based on the themes you want to shape your stay: historic buildings, archaeological sites, landscape or local festivals. Funtana Manna was built in the town centre; Lake Cuga is five kilometres from Uri, and other cultural sites add to the town’s history. Before booking, you can consider whether to focus on the town centre, the area around the lake or the date of an event.

Landscape and Lake Cuga

Uri lies in a hilly landscape crossed by valleys and rich in limestone, basalt and trachyte. Alongside this wider landscape, Lake Cuga offers a specific point of interest: the artificial reservoir is five kilometres from Uri on the road to Alghero. The area around the lake is a habitat for rare waterbirds; sport fishing is also possible there. For planning purposes, you can distinguish between a nature theme and a specific leisure activity, without treating them as the same thing.

Parco Sant’Antonio has picnic areas, toilets and a playground. These named facilities give you another practical point of reference when comparing possible focuses for your trip. The landscape, lake and park offer different points of interest: the hills and valleys around Uri, the artificial reservoir and its waterbirds, and the park’s facilities.

Buildings and archaeological sites

Funtana Manna was built in the town centre in 1777. Since 2018, it has been part of the tourist route “Funtaneris. Sulle strade dell’acqua”. This fountain therefore brings together two points in time: its construction in the 18th century and its inclusion in the named route since 2018.

The Chiesa parrocchiale di Nostra Signora della Pazienza is a late-Romanesque parish church on Piazza Vittorio Veneto. A religious tradition in Uri follows a specific sequence: the main celebration in honour of the Madonna begins on 12 September with Vespers; the following day, a solemn mass and a procession through the town’s streets take place. If you want to plan your trip around this celebration, check the dates for your travel year.

The Complesso nuragico di Santa Caterina is a Bronze Age complex consisting of a trilobate nuraghe and a village. The three Nuragic towers and the remains of the huts around them are located in Uri’s present-day historic centre. The remains of Nuraghe Peppe Gallu emerge during dry periods. The historic Antico Lavatoio Su Trogliu washhouse is also part of the town’s history: after a period of disrepair, it was restored in 1997.

Sa Pedra Longa lies a few kilometres from Uri. Of this Nuragic Giants’ Tomb, only the monolithic, arched stele, made from a single block of rock, remains. The tomb is dated to the Middle Bronze Age, around 1700–1350 BC. By comparison, Santa Caterina is a complex of nuraghes and a village, while Sa Pedra Longa is represented by the surviving stele of a tomb.

Sagra del carciofo

The Sagra del carciofo takes place every year in March. Visitors can sample the namesake artichoke in numerous variations. The month and culinary speciality give this festival its own focus alongside the buildings and archaeological sites. If you want to plan your stay around the event, check the dates for the relevant year.
