La Muddizza is a district of Valledoria, set in a hilly, rather secluded location and with a distinctive church history. If you are looking for a hotel in La Muddizza, you can plan your trip around whether you are primarily interested in the landscape and hiking, or in architectural history and local traditions. These themes offer different starting points for planning your trip.

Landscape and hiking route

The landscape extends from green valleys to views of the sea. The “Trekking la Muddizza” trail is a separate point to consider when planning, and is 50 minutes from Valledoria. Check local trail conditions before setting out. If you are mainly looking for scenic surroundings, you can take the valleys and sea views into account when choosing where to stay; if you want to hike, plan the route separately. This lets you consider the district’s broader character and a specifically named trail as different aspects of your trip.

Church and architectural history

The parish church of Nostra Signora di Fatima was built from sandstone between 1948 and 1954. Its elliptical floor plan, meaning the building’s oval shape, and its sunken portico describe two further aspects of the structure. The floor plan refers to the shape of the building as viewed from above; the portico is a distinct architectural feature. This helps distinguish the details: the dates refer to the construction period, sandstone to the material, and the floor plan and portico to the design. Visitors interested in church architecture can understand the building through these details as a combination of material, spatial form and architectural feature.

Church and community

The church is a symbol of the community’s identity; an extraordinary story connects it directly with the Vatican. It houses a large statue of its patron saint, donated by Pope Pius XII. On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the apparition at Fatima, Pope Francis recognized the church as a Jubilee church. Pilgrimages were possible there from 13 May to 13 October. The statue and the pilgrimage period represent different historical connections: the statue is a furnishing detail, while the pilgrimages took place during a limited Jubilee period.

Feast day and public space

The Feast of Saint Anthony of Padua is celebrated in La Muddizza on the second Sunday in August; he is a co-patron of the parish. If you would like to time your trip to coincide with the feast, confirm the current programme in advance. A new square next to the church was inaugurated in 2024, with the aim of making access to the church easier and improving its use. A recurring feast date and a dated change to public space therefore provide different points of reference for planning your trip.

Shuttle service in the 2026 travel year

A shuttle bus was planned for the 2026 season, starting on 17 June. It was to connect Valledoria town centre and the districts of La Ciaccia and La Muddizza with the beaches. If you are planning a journey, check the timetable applicable to your travel dates.
