Capitana offers several distinct starting points for planning a trip: two coves, wind-dependent water sports, a marina and historic buildings. When looking for a hotel, you can consider whether the coast, water sports, boating or architectural history is of greatest interest to you. The details differ above all in their features and the conditions required for certain activities.

Coves and coast

Capitana Beach consists of two coves. The first is smaller and crescent-shaped; the second stretches alongside a rocky headland. The colours of the water also change with distance from the shore: close to shore, the sea is clear; farther out, the shades of blue grow progressively darker, reaching a deep blue. These features give a more precise picture of the coast than a general description of the beach.

You can reach the beach via several turn-offs from Provincial Road 17. Both the different shapes of the coves and the route towards the rocky headland can help you find your way.

Water sports and marina

When the Maestrale or Scirocco winds blow, Capitana attracts surfers as well as kiteboarders and windsurfers. Schools and equipment rental services are available for these sports. Wind is a specific factor to consider when planning: the activities mentioned are explicitly associated with the Maestrale or Scirocco, not just any weather conditions. Services may vary by season or operator; for specific dates, it is advisable to ask directly.

Marina di Capitana is a separate point of interest for boat owners. The marina has around 480 berths for boats from 4 to 27 metres in length; berths can be purchased or rented. If you are considering a berth, confirm capacity and commercial terms again before booking.

Boat owners with vessels up to 7 metres long can also enter into a dry-storage contract. This includes use of a slipway reserved exclusively for contract holders. For the 2026 season, Marina di Capitana received the Blue Flag in the “Marinas” category; the award was announced on 15 May 2026.

Nuraghe Diana and architectural history

Nuraghe Diana consists of a main tower, two smaller towers and a square courtyard providing access to various rooms. If you would like to visit the structure, the route starts on foot from Is Mortorius and leads up to the hilltop. Leave your car in Is Mortorius beforehand. As parking conditions can change, it is best to check the situation before your visit.

Another historic site is the Ex Batteria Contraerea C-165 di Capitana. Gun emplacements and underground ammunition rooms sealed with iron doors are still visible there. Some pencil inscriptions left by personnel can still be read inside the rooms.

These themes may offer different points of reference when choosing where to stay: the coastal description focuses on coves and water colours, water sports on particular wind conditions, the marina on boating, and the historic buildings on architecture and surviving traces. This makes it easier to consider Capitana in terms of the interests that matter for your trip.
