Eremo can be explored from two different perspectives: the history of the Eremo dei Camaldolesi and the trails that include the area in their routes. If you choose a destination with historic points of interest, the complex offers a clear starting point: it was built in 1606. By contrast, the names Sentiero 12, Sentiero 32 and Anello Verde are key to finding your way around the trail network. They distinguish historic places, trail destinations and a specifically named route section without conflating them into a single place to visit.

Eremo dei Camaldolesi

The Eremo dei Camaldolesi complex was built in 1606 in a park with pine trees, cypresses and cedars. The year provides a specific historical reference for its construction; the three tree species describe the setting in which the complex was established.

The original design provided each hermit with a separate house featuring an indoor well, a cell, an oratory and a very small garden. The plans assign these elements to an individual living space. This allows the complex to be understood on two scales: the park provides the landscape setting, while the house concept was designed for each individual hermit.

The bell tower of the church of the Eremo dei Camaldolesi is visible only from the outside.

Historic places nearby

Cascina Margaria is near Eremo, was already in existence at the beginning of the 18th century and reflects the area's agricultural and pastoral character.

The remains of a medieval fortified structure are located on Bric San Viter, near Eremo. Together, the two landmarks represent different aspects of the area: Cascina Margaria reflects its agricultural and pastoral character, while Bric San Viter is associated with medieval fortification remains. Both places broaden the view beyond the Eremo dei Camaldolesi complex and remain distinct landmarks in the surrounding area.

The dates place these landmarks in different periods: the medieval fortification remains are followed by the complex, built in 1606, and Cascina Margaria, which was already in existence at the beginning of the 18th century. This makes it possible to distinguish the three historical points of reference chronologically rather than viewing them as a single building history.

Trails around Eremo

The Anello Verde approaches Eremo via Sentiero 12. At Strada Eremo, Sentiero n°12 leads to Torre dell’Eremo, which is entrusted to Sermig (Arsenale dell’Armonia). This gives you two specific points of reference for Sentiero 12: the Anello Verde route towards Eremo and Torre dell’Eremo on Strada Eremo.

At Strada Eremo, the entrances to Sentieri 32 and 33 lead towards Pecetto. The second section of the Anello Verde, which runs from Eremo to Tetti Forni, is a separate route. The two details answer different wayfinding questions: Pecetto indicates a direction, while Eremo and Tetti Forni name the endpoints of a section. So when comparing the routes, you are comparing a direction with a section that has two named endpoints.
