Accommodation in Bricherasio
Bricherasio brings together churches and historic buildings with routes through hills and vineyards. When planning your trip, you can focus on different themes: architectural history, walking routes, a cycling route or the town’s wine-making tradition.
Churches and Local History
The parish church of Santa Maria was built in 1602 in the Baroque style. The leaf and fruit motifs on the main altar reflect two traditional products of Bricherasio: grapes and apples. The church also has a 19th-century organ built by the Collino brothers. This building brings together distinct aspects of local history: its Baroque appearance, regional motifs and a historic instrument.
The church of Santa Caterina is on Strada Santa Caterina in the hamlet of San Michele, 2.6 kilometres from the town centre. Its architecture features mixed stone and brick walls, a single-nave layout and a semicircular apse. Also in Località San Michele is the documentation centre of the Ecomuseo della Resistenza, on the ground floor of a former school. The Ecomuseo includes the exhibition “La guerra di Bastian” and multimedia materials in the documentation centre.
The Palazzo dei Conti di Bricherasio was built between the 17th and 18th centuries at the foot of the castle hill, on the site of fortifications destroyed during the siege of 1594. The Palazzo’s park covers almost four hectares and contains around 50 tree species and at least 20 shrub species. The In Sterni staircase connects Via Roma with Via Vittorio Emanuele II; its paving stones are laid irregularly. The Assietta Gate is an entrance with exposed brick walls and a rounded arch. The climb to the castle also has a specific structure: it leads to the castle and consists of 15 stone-slab steps with 30 to 40 centimetres of gravel.
Further details add to this picture: the monument dedicated to Filippo Brignone commemorates a lieutenant, general and senator of the Kingdom who was born in Bricherasio. The Cuccia oven has a firing chamber built entirely of brick, two rectangular niches and a drying shaft in the attic.
Belvedere and Routes
The Belvedere viewpoint is an open area in the park of Conte Viancino, furnished with tables, benches and a fountain. The Belvedere is also a two-storey building with a pentagonal floor plan and a roof made of Luserna stone shingles. It is accessible only on foot, via the Scalinata al Castello or an unpaved path beside the car park on Via San Michele. The church of Madonna del Castello can be reached from the town centre via a stone staircase used for walks and pilgrimages.
There are different distances and starting points to consider when planning routes. Section A of the Sentieri della Resistenza runs entirely within the municipality, is 25 kilometres long, and starts and ends at the local primary schools. The Strada delle Mele Bike Tour starts and ends in Piazza Giretti and follows the banks of the Chisone; it is approximately 21 kilometres long. The comparison gives a sense of the different distances and start and end points without treating the routes as equivalent. The Strada delle Mele also passes through Bricherasio along an old road between aristocratic palaces and vineyards.
A biodiversity trail follows Via Del Grotto through the hills to the hamlets of San Michele and Santa Caterina. The landscape there is characterised by vineyards. Together with the information about the Bike Tour and Section A of the Sentieri della Resistenza, this provides an overview of the different paths and route formats that make up Bricherasio.
Wine Tradition and Events
The Sagra dell'Uva has been celebrated in Bricherasio every September at harvest time since the early years of the 20th century. The tradition includes handmade allegorical floats themed around grapes and wine; the event attracts many people every year. The 30th edition of Mangia&Cammina was scheduled for 6 September 2026. After a one-year break, the gastronomic walking event in the hills of Bricherasio was to be organised by the Pro Loco di Bricherasio together with numerous local producers and businesses.
