Quargnento can be discovered through sacred art, local history and rural landscapes. The Basilica of San Dalmazio, the Carlo Carrà art trail and walks along green paths each offer a different perspective. When planning your stay, you can choose what to focus on: religious art, traces of the past or time outdoors.

Church Art and Local History

In 1992, the Church of San Dalmazio was elevated to the status of a basilica for historical, artistic and spiritual reasons. The basilica houses a polyptych by Gandolfino da Roreto. A polyptych is a multi-panel artwork. Here, a precisely dated event in the history of the church and a work of art attributed to a named artist are brought together.

Quargnento’s Roman origins are also made tangible by archaeological finds, including a Roman funerary stele bearing a mention of the gens Posilla. The stele gives the town’s early history a concrete archaeological reference and connects it with a name passed down through the ages. A different historical period is represented by Villa Cuttica di Cassine, built in 1763 as a country residence for Marquis Cesare Cuttica di Cassine. Taken together, the Roman finds, the 1763 country residence and the basilica’s elevation in 1992 mark different periods in the town’s history.

Art Trail and Landscape

The Carlo Carrà art trail offers a different cultural focus. It consists of ten lithographs displayed on easels at various locations around the town. The trail brings to life places associated with the painter Carlo Carrà, who was born in Quargnento. For those interested in culture, it differs from the basilica: the basilica houses a polyptych, while the Carrà trail is defined by ten lithographs and their connection to the painter’s hometown.

The surrounding area also offers a scenic perspective. Walks are possible along green rural paths, and there are panoramic views of the hills. Geologically, part of the Quargnento area already belongs to Monferrato. These details speak to different aspects of a stay: the paths offer an outdoor activity, the hill views are a landscape feature, and the connection to Monferrato provides the geological classification of part of the area.

Religious Tradition and a Culinary Occasion

The Allegrezze, an annual ceremony in honour of the Madonna del Rosario, is part of the religious tradition. It offers a different focus from the archaeological heritage or the art trail: the emphasis is on a recurring religious occasion.

A culinary occasion was the 20th Sagra della Melanzana, announced for 28–30 August 2026 at Parco “Coubon”. The menu planned for this edition included parmigiana, caponata, grilled aubergines with chilli, pasta alla Norma and agnolotti; live music was also announced. Alongside the Allegrezze, the Sagra represents a different kind of event: one centred on devotion to the Madonna del Rosario, the other on a programme with specific dates featuring aubergine dishes and music.
