Momperone combines architectural history and landscape with outdoor activities and a local speciality.

Landscape and history

Momperone lies on a gentle slope on the right bank of the Torrente Curone. The municipality, with its numerous hamlets, extends across both sides of the valley. The hillside location describes Momperone’s relationship to the Torrente Curone, while the municipality’s extension across both sides refers to the area covered by its hamlets. Momperone was first mentioned in 1220, during the reign of Emperor Frederick II of Hohenstaufen. This first reference to the settlement predates the construction of the parish church in the 15th century by a considerable margin.

Church and watermill

The parish church of Santi Pietro e Vittore is a Baroque church with remarkable marble altars. It was built in the 15th century over an existing 12th-century building. The presbytery was decorated by the Turin painter Delle Ceste. The church therefore brings together different aspects of art and architectural history: an earlier building phase, the 15th-century church, and its Baroque furnishings.

The watermill, Mulino ad acqua, also combines historical context with technical details. It dates from the feudal period, has two grinding stones and French millstones, and is already mentioned in a document from 1542. The mill is accessible by car and is a short distance from the town hall. Check local conditions before setting out.

Trails, golf and horse riding

A 2017 tourism profile describes trails established by the municipality, rated as moderately difficult and suitable for walking and cycling. Several votive chapels can be seen along the hiking and cycling routes; there are also sulphur springs along the routes. The chapels and springs provide specific points of interest along the way. Check current trail conditions before setting out.

Golf & Country Val Curone has an 18-hole golf course with a par of 72. The municipal website, updated on 23 October 2024, described the course as open year-round, except for a few short weather-related periods during the winter months. Check current operating information when planning a round of golf. The golf course and trails call for different kinds of planning: for golf, the number of holes and par matter; for the trails, the moderate difficulty and suitability for walking or cycling.

A 2017 tourism profile mentions a riding stable in Momperone that offers rides for experienced riders and riding lessons. Confirm current operations and availability locally before making plans.

Malfatti from the Curone Valley

Malfatti are a signature first course of the Curone Valley and are particularly associated with Momperone. Prepared according to an old recipe by local women, the dish can be sampled at the Malfatti evenings organised by the local A.T. Pro Loco di Momperone. These evenings are included in the summer programme each year from June onwards. Check the programme dates for the summer you plan to visit.
