Delebio combines trails through varied landscapes with chapels, churches and traces of local history. If you are looking for a hotel in Delebio, nature trails or historic buildings can provide a useful focus for planning your trip. Local routes vary in length, course and theme; the cultural heritage also ranges from an old wayside chapel to a traditional farmstead.

Nature Trails and Routes Around Delebio

The Sentiero Valtellina passes through Delebio and forms part of a 114-kilometre route between Colico and Bormio. The full route can be travelled by bicycle, on foot or on horseback. The 114 kilometres refer to the connection between the two endpoints, not just the section through Delebio. If you are comparing routes by their character, this one offers several ways to get around. The Cammino Mariano delle Alpi also passes through Delebio, following the same route there as the Sentiero del Viandante.

The trails on Mount Legnone have different thematic focuses. The Percorso Didattico Legnone starts at Alpe Legnone and follows a military mule track on the Cadorna Line for an extended section. The Percorso Faunistico Legnone is an educational trail about the diversity of habitats in Val Lesina and the wildlife found there. The Foresta Regionale Val Lesina lies entirely within the Parco Regionale delle Orobie Valtellinesi.

You can reach Alpe Legnone from Delebio on foot by following the uphill agro-forestry-pastoral road to Località Osiccio; you can park your car in Osiccio. The historic origins of the trails and roads are also evident on Mount Legnone: the military roads of the Cadorna Line there date from the First World War and connected Pagnona with Delebio. When planning your trip, you can therefore consider nature and traces of the infrastructure of that period together, without treating the different routes as one and the same.

Chapels, Churches and History

The Gesiöö del San Gottardo is one of Delebio’s oldest wayside chapels. It depicts the Immaculate Conception and Saints Gotthard and Dominic. The chapel’s lighting also recalls that Delebio was the first place in Valtellina to receive public lighting, in 1895. This small building therefore brings religious imagery together with a notable event in local history.

Santa Domenica is a 12th-century church located near the site where the Battle of Delebio between the Milanese and the Venetians was fought in 1432. San Carpoforo also connects architectural and community history: the church, richly decorated with frescoes, is Delebio’s parish church and the place where the municipality was proclaimed in 1204. These historical connections differ clearly for trip planning: at Santa Domenica, the focus is on its proximity to the historic battlefield, while at San Carpoforo it is on its connection to the history of the community.

Mill, Farmstead and Rococo

The historic Mulino Mazza was restored by the Pro Loco di Delebio and has working original machinery. The Colondello dei Bùlat reveals another side of local history: this traditional farmstead comprises homes and stables grouped around a central courtyard. This layout makes the shared courtyard the defining feature of the complex.

The Oratorio di San Gerolamo is a former private chapel of the Peregalli family and an important example of Valtellina’s Rococo heritage. Together with the mill, the farmstead and the churches, it broadens the picture beyond individual religious buildings to include different forms of architectural history. In Delebio, you can therefore tailor your focus on nature and cultural heritage to your interests: the routes differ in length, use and theme, while each building has its own historical connections.
