Rice fields characterize the municipal area, and the town lies on a river terrace formed by the Po. Other points of interest include churches and palazzi, wetlands, and local rice and festival culture. This makes it possible to choose a stay based on landscape, history, or cuisine.

Nature and Trails

A short path leads through dense vegetation to an area overlooking the Parchetto dell'Agognetta wetland. The Lanca di Balossa has natural willow stands and an abundant fish population. Below the railway bridge, Grande Isola is designated as a place for nature and wildlife photography. These nature sites offer different attractions: willows and fish are the focus at the Lanca, while Grande Isola is specifically designated for nature and wildlife photography.

The Sannazzaro–Scaldasole cycle path connects Sannazzaro De' Burgondi and Scaldasole and is more than one kilometer long. Its completion was reported in 2018. Check the current condition of the path before setting out.

Churches and Architectural History

The parish church, Chiesa Parrocchiale dei Santi Nazzaro e Celso, dates from the 15th or 16th century and was remodeled in the Baroque style in the 17th and 18th centuries. Inside are two 15th-century gilded wooden statues depicting the patron saints. The building's history and statues provide a tangible connection to the town's past.

The construction period of the Santuario Madonna della Fontana is precisely documented: work began in 1710 and was completed in 1786. The single-nave sanctuary features four 18th-century altarpieces and vivid fresco decorations. The Chiesa Santi Bernardino e Rocco also houses a Lingiardi organ.

Palazzi, Library, and Local Tradition

Palazzo Pollone is a Baroque palazzo-giardino whose design draws on the Piedmontese Barocchetto style. The reception hall features murals by Piedmontese painter Vittorio Cavalleri. Here, architecture and painting complement the religious artworks, offering a distinct perspective on the town's architectural and artistic history.

Il Portone is a monumental archway built at the town entrance in 1724 and popularly known as “Il Portone.” Palazzo Malaspina is known as the so-called “castello” of Sannazzaro De' Burgondi and is privately owned. Its current appearance probably dates to a renovation carried out by Marchese Luigi in the final decades of the 18th century.

The Biblioteca Civica Carlo Tacconi is housed in the listed Palazzo Fugazza and offers spaces for consultation and study. It is classified as a basic library. The library spaces are therefore another local point of reference, alongside the churches and historic buildings.

Risotto and Festivals

Risotto alla Sannazzarese is a local culinary specialty. Its basic ingredients include pasta di salame d'oca, a paste made from goose salami, and the typical Burgundella cheese.

The Sagra del Riso is a recurring festival; its 45th edition took place in June 2026. The 2026 edition included a market and exhibition showcasing agricultural machinery and grain products, as well as a food exhibition and the “Chicco d'oro” competition. Risottos with saffron, porcini mushrooms, champagne, pumpkin, and sausage meat were served at this edition.

Burgundo also plays a part in local festival traditions: this popular mask still brings the local carnival to life today. Along with the historic buildings and rice and festival culture, it offers another way to experience the identity of Sannazzaro De' Burgondi.
