Godiasco: Trails, Panoramas and History
Accommodation in Godiasco
In Godiasco, hiking trails, a striking panoramic view and visible evidence of the town’s history come together. When planning, it is worth distinguishing between a route connecting two places, a loop trail and a standalone cultural experience. This will help you choose among the destinations described based on route type and personal interests.
Hiking trails and route characteristics
Hiking trail 171 connects Godiasco and Salice Terme along the Staffora’s left bank. Halfway along the route, you can visit Montalfeo via a short detour. Loop trail 170, by contrast, starts and ends in Godiasco. It is 7.5 kilometres long and rated moderate; the route climbs the Staffora’s northern slope to Gomo, with panoramic views, then follows a paved road to Verone and back to Godiasco.
The difference is practical: Route 170 is described as a loop of a set length and difficulty level, while Route 171 connects Godiasco with Salice Terme and allows for a detour to Montalfeo. The Voghera–Varzi Greenway offers another type of route. This 33-kilometre paved path for cyclists and pedestrians follows the track of a railway line that has been disused for more than half a century. The options therefore differ in their modes of travel and route layout.
Panoramas, parks and seasonal nature
The Big Bench of Godiasco #247 is situated at almost 500 metres above sea level. From there, the panoramic view stretches from Monviso to Monte Rosa and from Monte Penice to Monte Giarolo. These mountains define two distinct vistas and give the viewpoint its own distinctive landscape.
In Salice Terme, the historic spa park has centuries-old trees and shady avenues. It is a place to relax, stroll and exercise; check current access information before visiting. Lavender fields in the hills above Salice Terme, including in Alta Collina, are a seasonal natural attraction. They bloom each year from late June to early July, although the dates vary from year to year.
The thermal waters of Salice Terme also shape the town: they come from underground basins of marine origin and sulphur springs. The spa facilities are currently undergoing renovation. The origin of the water and the current status of the facilities are therefore two distinct aspects to bear in mind when planning your trip.
Architectural history in Godiasco
A visible section of the town walls dates back to the 13th century and includes two surviving towers. One is on Via del Castello, the other on Via della Cerchia. Both are made of stone and river pebbles and decorated with a band of brickwork. Their locations and building materials make the two towers readily distinguishable examples of medieval fortifications.
The Church of San Siro and Santa Reparata is located on present-day Piazza Cagnoni in Godiasco. It was built in the 12th century and dedicated to the two saints. Next to it stands Palazzo Malaspina, a residence of the Malaspina family that is privately owned. Its location beside the old church and its private ownership are relevant to understanding the building; a visit should not be assumed to be possible.
Practical information for your stay
Access to the courses at Parco Avventura Salice Terme requires a ticket and participation in the safety briefing given by the safety officer. The ticket includes personal protective equipment, instruction in movement and safety techniques, and supervision by the relevant staff. As operating rules may change, check the latest access information before visiting.
Salice Terme can be reached by road, motorway and rail. The nearest station mentioned is in Voghera, nine kilometres away. If you are travelling by public transport, check the timetables before your trip. To choose among the experiences described, consider their specific differences: a loop trail or a connecting route, architecture and local history, or seasonal nature.
