Inverigo is a destination for travellers who want to make villas, sacred architecture and the landscape the focus of their stay. Specific topics include the history of Villa Perego di Cremnago, the connection between Villa La Rotonda and neoclassical architect Luigi Cagnola, and the buildings in Cremnago. The Viale dei Cipressi and the Parco Regionale della Valle del Lambro are also part of the picture.

Villas and Historic Paths

Villa Perego di Cremnago was built in the first half of the 18th century by Canon Giovanni Perego in the late Baroque style. The adjoining stables were entrusted to architect Simone Cantoni. The estate thus brings together the architectural history of the villa and a separate architectural commission for the stables. The halls, the large library and the private chapel are open during guided group visits. Arrange the visit in advance of your trip.

Villa La Rotonda stands on Inverigo’s highest hill and is considered the artistic legacy of neoclassical architect Luigi Cagnola. The Viale dei Cipressi begins at the Scala del Gigante, which descends from the villa’s hill. This approximately two-kilometre-long, tree-lined path was laid out in several stages by the Crivelli family between the mid-17th and early 18th centuries. The Viale’s length, tree cover and history give it a distinctive character among Inverigo’s historic sites.

Sacred Architecture, Settlement and Landscape

Villa Crivelli stands on a commanding hill overlooking the Lambro Valley. In Cremnago, the Chiesa di San Vincenzo has a clearly described spatial layout: it has a rectangular floor plan, three naves and a deep apsidal presbytery. The naves structure the interior lengthwise; the presbytery forms the liturgical area at the end of the church. This highlights different aspects: Villa Crivelli’s position overlooking the valley, and San Vincenzo’s floor plan and interior layout.

Near the Orrido di Inverigo, an old settlement of farmhouses and the Oratorio di Sant’Andrea del Navello has been preserved. The Oratorio retains a particularly rich cycle of frescoes and stucco work. Frescoes are wall paintings, while stucco allows for sculptural decoration. Together, the two forms draw attention to different aspects of the Oratorio’s artistic adornment.

The Parco Regionale della Valle del Lambro is home to a diverse range of fauna, including numerous birds, reptiles, amphibians and mammals. Alongside the villas, churches and works of art, this adds a distinct nature theme to your travel planning.
