Temù: Mountain Scenery, Winter Sports and Culture
Accommodation in Temù
Temù brings together mountain scenery, winter sports, and cultural sites. Meadows, coniferous forests, and the snow-covered peaks of the Adamello group shape the surroundings of the town. When planning a stay, you can focus on different interests: the ski area in winter, ice skating and lessons at the Palaghiaccio, mountain biking, or historical sites. The location of the Chiesetta di Santa Giulia and the Sentiero Italia stage also offer specific points of reference when planning your time in Temù around your interests.
Winter Sports, Ice Skating, and Mountain Biking
In winter, Temù has a ski area with four chairlifts and eight runs of varying difficulty. It is connected to the rest of the ski area. If you are planning a winter trip, this connection helps put the local range of runs into context. Check operating status for your travel dates.
At the Palaghiaccio in Temù, you can ice skate from October to April. FISG instructors teach courses for beginners and for skaters starting out in competitive sport. If you are planning to skate or take a course, it is advisable to check current availability.
The Roccolo Ventura chairlift also operates in summer. It is equipped with hooks for transporting mountain bikes uphill. The Pontedilegno-Tonale Bike Park extends across Passo Tonale, Ponte di Legno, and Temù, and includes six trails. For planning purposes, you can consider the lift transport and bike park separately; check seasonal lift operations and the current trail offering before your trip.
Mountain Scenery and Trails
The Chiesetta di Santa Giulia stands at an altitude of 1,860 metres above Mezzullo, on the edge of a larch forest. From the Temù cable car parking area, you can reach the church either by cable car to Roccolo Ventura or on foot along the Mezzullo–Roccolo Ventura gravel road. Its elevation and position at the forest’s edge give a visit to the church a distinctive scenic setting.
The SI D29S stage of the Sentiero Italia provides another point of reference for hikers. After descending all the way through the Valle dell’Avio, it crosses the Oglio River and climbs to the centre of Temù. As this is a mountain route, check the conditions before setting out.
The Val d’Avio can be reached from Temù via a roughly five-kilometre, car-accessible route to Malga Caldea at an altitude of 1,508 metres. The approximate distance and destination help with planning the timing and route of a drive into the valley. Check local road conditions before setting out.
Museum, Churches, and Industrial History
The Museo della Guerra Bianca in Adamello is dedicated to the White War on the high-altitude front. The exhibition includes several hundred artefacts recovered at high altitude, explained through historical texts and images. The permanent exhibition is open during regular opening hours; special openings, particularly for organised groups and school classes, can be arranged by appointment. Check opening hours before your visit or request a special opening.
The Chiesa Parrocchiale di San Bartolomeo dates from the 17th century and underwent extensive alterations in the 18th and 19th centuries. Its furnishings include a collection of wood artworks, including the main altar by Giovan Battista Zotti and the Rosary altar from the Ramus workshop. The church’s history and craftsmanship offer different ways to explore the building.
The former hydroelectric power station building in Località Centrale stands on the Oglio River, about one kilometre from Temù, and is considered an example of industrial archaeology. It was built after the First World War; construction work lasted from 1921 to 1927. Alongside the churches, it offers an example of more recent technological history to include in your choice of themes.
Local tradition is part of the history of the Chiesa di Sant’Alessandro: according to a local legend, it was founded by Charlemagne. Taken as a legend, this story complements the architectural and historical themes you can discover in Temù.
