Foppolo for your trip planning

Foppolo offers several distinct themes to consider when planning a trip: alpine hiking trails with named destinations, seasonal ski-area announcements and church-related cultural heritage. If you are looking for a hotel in Foppolo, you can start by choosing according to your planned travel dates and personal interests. Specific route descriptions, elevation details and historical information can help you compare the destinations. For the alpine trails described here, seasonal access conditions are also part of the planning process.

Hiking destinations with different points of reference

Sentiero 201 leads from Passo di Tartano to Foppolo. It reaches the highest of the three Porcile lakes and then Passo di Porcile. The route therefore passes a lake and then a mountain pass as named destinations. Seasonal access depends on alpine conditions.

Sentiero 204 leads from Foppolo to Lago Moro, which lies at an elevation of approximately 2,235 metres. Unlike Sentiero 201, this route focuses on the lake as its named endpoint. Seasonal access to Sentiero 204 depends on the weather and trail conditions. When comparing routes by their destinations, Lago Moro provides a clear point of reference.

Sentiero 202 reaches Passo di Dordona at an elevation of 2,061 metres. Unlike Lago Moro, the named destination here is a mountain pass; the route descriptions therefore differ in the type of destination. Weather or maintenance may affect trail conditions on Sentiero 202. Check these conditions before setting out.

Winter topics tied to the season

For the 2025–26 season, the operator announced the return of the Cappelletta ski run. The unified Foppolo+Carona ski area was also announced for this season, with access from Foppolo or Carona. Both details refer to announcements for this specific period and do not say anything about later winter seasons.

Churches, history and art

There is evidence that a somewhat smaller church of Santa Maria Assunta in Foppolo already existed before 1492. In 1575, the church of Santa Maria Assunta had three altars. The church contains frescoes, stained-glass windows, paintings and wooden sculptures. Historical points of reference are thus complemented by a diverse collection of artworks.

Another church-related point of interest is the Sanctuary of Beata Vergine della Neve. It houses a fire-resistant clay crucifix created in 1973 by Centro Ave di Loppiano. Unlike the variety of art forms in Santa Maria Assunta, this is a single work associated with a specific material, year of creation and creator. The two sites therefore offer different cultural points of interest for your trip planning.

Visitor information

A municipal webpage, updated on 9 December 2025, names Associazione Turistica Foppolo APS as responsible for the summer information point and for information about the Brembo Ski area. The information point is described as a summer service; check the current status of visitor services before your visit. This allows you to plan seasonal visitor information separately from the more enduring trail and cultural topics.
