Bardino Nuovo brings together the Bergallo family’s tower-clock tradition, the Chiesa di San Sebastiano, and the sweeping view from the square in front of the church across the valley and out to the Ligurian Sea. There are also more recent works in Borgata Bosi. If you’re looking for a hotel in Bardino Nuovo, you can choose where to stay based on whether clockmaking history, church history, or the views are the main focus of your visit.

Bergallo Tower Clocks and Archive

From 1861 to 1980, the Bergallo family made tower clocks in their home workshop in Bardino Nuovo. The Fabbrica di orologi da torre Bergallo operated there, manufacturing and selling tower clocks from 1877 to 1987. The periods overlap but are not identical: the home workshop began earlier, while the Fabbrica continued operating for longer.

The Fabbrica’s holdings include an archive with documents dating from the 19th century to 1995, including a document from 1753. This early record predates the workshop and factory periods mentioned above; at the same time, the records extend beyond the Fabbrica’s closure in 1987. The operating period and the archive’s date range thus offer different perspectives on the history of clockmaking.

Chiesa di San Sebastiano: History and Views

The Chiesa di San Sebastiano was built between 1681 and 1708. On November 19, 1797, it was made a parish church after being separated from the parish of Bardino Vecchio. The construction period and its elevation to parish status mark different stages: the church building was completed decades before this ecclesiastical change.

The square in front of the church offers a sweeping view across the entire valley and out to the Ligurian Sea. Here, the church’s dated construction and parish history meet a distinctive vantage point.

Cycling Tour, Walk, and Getting There

The reservation-based route of a guided cycling tour runs from Pietra Ligure through Tovo San Giacomo and along Via del Ferro to Bardino Nuovo, then back to Pietra Ligure. If you’re planning to join the tour, confirm the date and make a reservation in advance. A section of Via del Ferro within the municipality of Tovo San Giacomo is also suitable for an easy walk in the countryside. The two activities differ in scope and format: the cycling tour passes through several places, while the walk follows a section within the municipality of Tovo San Giacomo. Before setting out for the walk, you can check the current trail conditions.

The nearest train station is Pietra Ligure; Bardino Nuovo can be reached from there via TPL Linea route 86. Check the route’s latest service information before travelling. Pietra Ligure is therefore both the location of the nearest train station and the starting and finishing point of the cycling tour described above.
