If you are looking for hotels in Moruzzo, your travel interests can help you choose a destination. The municipality brings together traces of Celtic and medieval history, preserved buildings, routes through the hills and a local festival tradition. Moruzzo and the medieval village of Santa Margherita del Gruagno represent different facets: archaeological history, a village centre with a parish church, and preserved sections of a fortified complex.

History and Buildings in Moruzzo

The history goes back to Celtic times: a necropolis from this period was discovered in Moruzzo in 1897. In Santa Margherita del Gruagno, a medieval village in the municipality of Moruzzo, the parish church stands in the centre of the village. The gate tower and remains of the defensive walkways have survived from the village’s fortified complex. The village’s appearance thus brings together the central parish church and tangible remains of the fortifications.

Another historic architectural ensemble is the Chiesetta di San Leonardo. Together with the two barchesse at the entrance, it is a preserved part of a large 17th-century villa. The BrazzĂ  Space is located in the castle of the same name and houses two museum collections. These buildings have different points of focus: the preserved connection between chapel and villa on the one hand, and the collections in the castle on the other.

Walking Trails and Cycling Route

The approximately 16 km Sentiero Stringher-Tacoli starts in Santa Margherita del Gruagno and runs along paths, farm tracks and minor roads. When planning, the described change in surface is therefore a useful guide, in addition to the approximate total distance. The main trail reaches the hamlets of Moruzzo and the northern side of the hills, offering wide-ranging views.

The 7 km Variante delle Fonti is a shorter option on the Sentiero Stringher-Tacoli. The two distances can be compared directly: the shorter option covers 7 km, while the full trail is approximately 16 km long. This comparison helps you gauge the intended route distance without treating the two routes as equal-length options.

For a bike ride, the Anello dei castelli medioevali (R036) is another named route. It passes close to Castello di Moruzzo and continues into Santa Margherita del Gruagno. For the walking trail, the focus is on distance, surface and views; for R036, the castle and village are the stated points of reference. You can therefore distinguish between the routes based on the activity and the specific features mentioned for each.

Nature and Local Tradition

The linden tree of Moruzzo is another notable local landmark. Botanical texts describe it as one of Italy’s oldest trees; it has been mentioned there for more than 500 years. The time period refers to these mentions. Alongside the buildings and trails, the linden tree therefore has its own place in the history of the area.

The old festival tradition Fieste dai ÛS E LIDRIC was associated with the local festival in February 2026. It features the typical dish ûs e lidric, made with winter radicchio “cul pòc” and hard-boiled eggs “ûs dûrs”. The named ingredients give the dish a clear seasonal connection; at the same time, its name points to a distinct local tradition, another aspect of a trip that differs from the historic buildings and trails.
