Cesenatico: Museums, Art and Maritime History
Accommodation in Cesenatico
Cesenatico offers several specific points of interest: Marco Pantani’s career, art and collections, maritime history, protected nature and practical activities. You can choose the focus of your stay according to whether you are especially interested in museums, boats, nature or a hands-on activity.
Museums, Art and House History
At Spazio Pantani, photographs, memorabilia and audiovisual materials trace Marco Pantani’s career. The Sala Alpe d’Huez offers another perspective: the small gallery includes more than twenty paintings created by Pantani himself. The same museum therefore presents materials about his career alongside his own paintings. Admission includes a multilingual audio guide that you can use directly on your smartphone.
Casa Moretti is an active museum and cultural center, as well as a house museum on the western bank of the Porto Canale Leonardesco. It preserves original furnishings, books, documents and autograph manuscripts donated to the municipality by Marino Moretti and his sister Ines. The collection combines personal belongings with writings and documents; the house museum thus offers a different perspective from the Marco Pantani exhibition at Spazio Pantani.
The municipal art collection is displayed in rotating exhibitions at the Galleria Leonardo da Vinci, which change every six months. The building’s history is also part of the gallery’s profile: it was built in 1929 as Cesenatico’s first large fish market. When choosing a cultural theme, you can therefore consider both the changing presentation of municipal art and the building’s former use.
Maritime Themes and Natural Areas
The Porto Canale Leonardesco was redesigned by Leonardo da Vinci in 1502. Along the canal, you can experience historic boats, sails and colorful houses. The floating section of the Museo della Marineria consists of ten traditional Adriatic boats. You can board the boats and learn old navigation techniques. You can also visit the cargo hold of the Trabaccolo freighter “Giovanni Pascoli.” The museum therefore offers not only boats to look at, but also concrete insights into individual vessels and navigation.
The Pineta di Zadina offers a different focus: it is part of the Riserva Naturale Pineta di Ravenna and covers around five hectares of woodland directly along the coastal zone, at the municipality’s northernmost edge. So, alongside museums, art and maritime collections, a specific natural area is also an option. These themes are easy to distinguish when planning your trip: here, the focus is on woodland and the coastal zone; there, on collections, buildings and boats.
Classes and Cycling Routes
If you are interested in preparing regional pasta, the Corso di Pasta Fresca at Trattoria La Zucca Gialla teaches you how to make tagliatelle, strozzapreti, cappelletti and tortelli by hand. The offering may change, so check in advance whether the class is available. The Laboratorio Artigianale di Stampa Romagnola is offered by reservation. It is also a good idea to check availability in advance for this workshop.
For intermediate-level cyclists, the official cycling route “Itinerario Bike: dal mare di Cesenatico alla collina” with Dalia Muccioli follows a 54 km route from Cesenatico to Cesenatico through the Romagna hills. The stated difficulty level and distance help you assess this as a distinct, clearly defined cycling option. Check route conditions before setting off.
