Amica: Olive Culture and Historical Traces
Accommodation in Amica
Amica can be explored on a trip primarily through its olive culture, local history, and specific leisure activities. Tenuta Terra Rossa combines the history of a former monastery with visits to the olive groves, tours of the olive mill, and guided tastings of extra virgin olive oil. The Festa di San Giuseppe is renewed in Amica year after year; the multipurpose sports facility in Contrada Amica was inaugurated on February 3, 2024.
A Former Monastery and Olive Oil
Tenuta Terra Rossa in C.da Amica – Località Onda includes a former monastery dating from between the late 16th and early 17th centuries. It later belonged to the Renzo family. The building’s history and the estate’s activities offer different ways to discover this part of town: one leads into the monastery’s past, while the others focus on olive cultivation and processing.
Tenuta Terra Rossa offers visits to its olive groves, tours of its olive mill, and guided tastings of extra virgin olive oil. These are three different areas of focus: the groves highlight cultivation, the mill tour focuses on processing, and the tasting centers on the product. Check the booking details again before your trip, especially if you are planning around one of these activities.
Olive-Growing Landscape and Agriculture
Azienda Agricola Bio F.lli Renzo covers about 50 hectares, including 28 hectares of olive groves. The farm includes a park with centuries-old olive trees, made up exclusively of the Dolce di Rossano variety and recognized as a Slow Food Presidia.
Tradition and Local Development
Amica’s modern development is associated with a rural culture of olive cultivation. The Festa di San Giuseppe is also part of local tradition: it is firmly rooted both in the city of Corigliano-Rossano and in the Contrade of Amica and Iti, and is renewed year after year.
Sports Facility and Walking Event
Another aspect of Amica is the multipurpose sports facility in Contrada Amica. It was inaugurated on February 3, 2024, and has a basketball and volleyball court, an equipped children’s area, and a green space. Its focus is therefore quite different from the historical and agricultural themes. Check its current condition and public access before visiting.
A specific walking event is also associated with Amica: the 2025 edition of “Camminata tra gli Olivi – Coltiviamo la Pace” began on October 26, 2025, at 9:45 a.m. at the meeting point at Azienda Agricola Bio F.lli Renzo in C.da Amica – Località Onda, Rossano.
