Baia Verde: Beach and kitesurfing
Accommodation in Baia Verde
Baia Verde combines an extensive stretch of beach with kitesurfing and seasonal nightlife. When planning your trip, you can start with the activity that matters most to you and consider the conditions for each separately.
Beach and coastal character
Baia Verde’s beach stretches for three kilometres south of Gallipoli. Its length provides a concrete indication of the extent of the coastline when choosing the focus of your holiday. The beach received Legambiente’s “3 Vele” award; its status may change between editions. The length describes the geographical extent, while the award is an assessment that depends on the edition.
Kitesurfing, wind and course offerings
Baia Verde is a kitesurfing spot on the central Ionian coast. It can be used with several wind directions, especially the Scirocco and Libeccio. However, whether conditions are suitable on the day of your trip depends on the wind. The spot offers easy access to the water, but the weather, waves and conditions at the shore can affect getting onto the water. So check the conditions before firmly planning a particular day for the sport.
At Lido Pizzo in Baia Verde (Gallipoli), Salento Coast Ovest offers kitesurfing courses for everyone from beginners to advanced riders. The courses therefore cover a broad range of experience levels, but availability and operating dates may change with the season and weather. Contact the provider to ask about your preferred date: the general range of courses does not guarantee that every level is available at all times. Salento Coast Ovest also offers kitesurfing equipment repairs, subject to the provider’s availability. If you need a repair, check availability in advance.
Evening entertainment and nature watching
During the season, beach establishments turn into venues for happy hour and open-air discos at night. What is on offer depends on each operator. If you want to plan evenings like these, check in advance what is being offered during the relevant season.
Around wetlands such as Canale Li Foggi, you may be able to spot waterbirds, including the black-winged stilt. This offers a nature-focused option alongside the beach and water sports. Sightings are seasonal and not guaranteed, so birdwatching is a possible addition, not an event that can be planned with certainty.
Getting there: shuttle information for 2026
For summer 2026, the Municipality of Gallipoli issued an ordinance on 29 May for a free summer shuttle. The route ran from the public car park next to the municipal stadium to the south coast; Baia Verde was the shuttle’s destination. For later seasons, check which arrangements apply before you travel.
If you have fixed travel dates, it is worth distinguishing between permanent features of the town and activities that vary. The beach provides a geographical point of reference; courses, wind and water conditions, nightlife and birdwatching each depend on seasonal, weather-related or operator-dependent factors. First decide what matters most to you, then check the conditions for the activities that are especially important for your trip.
