When searching for a hotel in Marina Di Vasto, start by considering which aspect of the coastal town you want to shape your stay: the long sandy beach, the nature reserve, traces of ancient Histonium, or the connection to the Via Verde for cycling and walking. These themes offer different ways to plan your trip around your interests.

Beach and Nature Reserve

Vasto Marina’s beach is more than four kilometres long and consists of fine, golden-coloured sand. If a sandy beach is central to your choice of location, this is a distinctive feature of the coast. South of Lungomare Duca degli Abruzzi lies the Marina di Vasto Regional Nature Reserve. It includes wetlands and brackish-water areas and is one of the last natural and near-natural beaches in Abruzzo. Its wetlands and brackish-water areas give the reserve great significance as a relic landscape. The two coastal features offer different points of reference for planning: the beach is characterised by its length and sandy composition, while the reserve is defined by its wetland and brackish-water landscape.

Histonium on the Coast

The history of Histonium can also be explored at specific locations. The Roman and medieval port of the city of Histonium is in the coastal stretch between the Monumento alla Bagnante and Trabocco Cungarelle. The Monumento alla Bagnante is a bronze work created by Aldo D'Adamo in 1979; over the years it has become a symbol of the tourist resort of Vasto. Remains of ancient Histonium lie underwater in the Parco archeologico sommerso, an archaeological diving site. These cultural landmarks differ in form and period: from the Roman and medieval port, to the bronze work from 1979, to the ancient remains lying underwater.

Via Verde and Lungomare

Vasto Marina is connected to the Via Verde by a route for cyclists and pedestrians. Cyclists coming from the Via Verde can therefore reach Lungomare Duca degli Abruzzi more easily and safely. If you are including cycling in your trip plans, this describes a specific link between the Via Verde and the named promenade.

La Sciabica and Local Tradition

La Sciabica is a traditional reenactment in Vasto Marina of the ancient fishing technique. An edition was announced for 26 July 2026 from 9:00 a.m. on the free beach in the area of the former Lido La Bussola and then at the pier. This was to be followed by the preparation of traditional Brodetto alla vastese and a tasting of wines from the region. The announced programme thus combines fishing tradition with regional cuisine and wine. If you would like to include events in your travel dates, check the dates in advance.
