Berhida: Churches, Cultural Park and Séd Stream
Accommodation in Berhida
You can explore Berhida for your trip planning through three distinct themes: church architecture, the Séd Stream and its hiking route, and parks hosting cultural or community events. The churches offer tangible differences in their construction periods, styles and features; the parks focus on culture, places of remembrance and children’s programs.
Churches with distinct architectural and artistic features
The Szent Kereszt Kistemplom was built around the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries in the late Romanesque and early Gothic styles. Its double stone roof structure is also a distinctive feature of the building. The Baroque Szent László Catholic Church has frescoes by Johann Ignaz Cimbal; its interior is entirely decorated with Baroque wall paintings. Another point of comparison is the Berhidai Református Templom: the Boronkay family had it built in 1768 in the Baroque style. If you are interested in architectural history, you can compare different styles and specific architectural details across these three churches.
The Séd Stream, cultural park and events
The Séd Stream, which flows through Berhida, offers a hiking route. Right beside the stream is Kistó Cultural Park, established in 2016 and used as a venue for cultural events and family occasions. Berhida therefore offers two distinct themes side by side: a route along the stream and a park used for events.
Children’s programs are held at Kistó Cultural Park on Children’s Day. Local associations and communities have participated for several years with their own programs in the event organized by the Berhidai Művelődési Ház és Könyvtár. At a children’s event in Berhida, members of the Berhidai Lovasok Sport Egyesület offered children opportunities to ride horses and take horse-drawn wagon rides. These activities are a specific example of an event offering, not an indication of a permanent program.
Places of remembrance in Berhida
Established in 2021, Együvé Tartozás Parkja brings together several commemorative and reflective features: a Trianon memorial, a reflection path, a Hungaria statue and a memorial to the expulsion. It also includes a Székely gate donated by the partner municipality, a double cross, the Stone of Togetherness and a carved memorial stele. The park therefore has a different focus from Kistó Cultural Park, whose described use centers on cultural events and family occasions.
More themes in the wider Northern Lake Balaton destination
The wider Northern Lake Balaton destination offers other visitor experiences with different focuses. Boat rides are available in the Tapolcai-tavasbarlang. The cave is part of a cave system beneath the town that has so far been explored over a length of 14.6 kilometers; it also offers the guided exhibition Csodálatos karszt (Wonderful Karst).
Hegyestű is a 337-meter-high mountain between Zánka and Monoszló. There, the inner face of a basalt volcano that was active about 8 million years ago reveals its rock structure. At the western edge of the quarry grounds, visitors can identify the surrounding hills with the help of a panoramic information board. Hegyestű also has a rock garden featuring characteristic rock types of Transdanubia. Alongside Berhida’s churches, hiking route and parks, the wider destination therefore also offers caves and geology.
