In Badacsonytördemic, Herczeg Ferenc Beach and the Badacsonylábdihegyi Ecotourism Visitor Centre offer different places to visit during your stay. The visitor centre is directly opposite the railway station and next to the beach. The exhibition and time spent by the shore therefore offer different experiences.

Exhibition and seasonal opening

In the exhibition room, films, images, objects and interactive presentations help visitors learn about the landscape, the volcanic past of Badacsony, the wildlife of the lake and the cultural heritage of the surrounding area. The topics range from nature and geology to local culture. The visitor centre is open to visitors in spring, summer and autumn. Plan your visit within this seasonal period and check the specific visiting days and opening hours in advance.

Herczeg Ferenc Beach

The beach has a gently sloping section of shore. Facilities listed there include a volleyball court, sports equipment for hire and a children’s playground. Your choice can therefore take into account both the character of the shoreline and specific opportunities for exercise and play.

Other highlights in the wider Lake Balaton - North destination

In the wider Lake Balaton - North destination, other places add karst landscapes, volcanic scenery and regional culture to the mix. The Tapolcai-tavasbarlang offers boat trips and the guided “Csodálatos karszt” (“Wonderful Karst”) exhibition. It is part of a cave system beneath Tapolca that has so far been explored to a length of 14.6 kilometres. Here, a specific visitor experience sits alongside the geological significance of the cave system.

Hegyestű is a 337-metre-high mountain between Zánka and Monoszló. It exposes the inside of a basalt volcano that was active about 8 million years ago. At the viewpoint on the western edge of the quarry site, visitors can identify the surrounding hills using a panorama board. A rock garden displays characteristic rock types of Transdanubia. This lets visitors explore the landscape both through its volcanic structure and its different rocks.

Another landscape highlight is the volcanic mountain of Badacsony. Hikers can follow trails and enjoy panoramic views there; distinctive geological formations are known as basalt organ pipes. Special grape varieties also grow on its slopes and are used to produce Badacsony wine. Thus, in the wider destination, hiking and wine-growing are options alongside interests in nature and geology. Scientific and craft-related themes also feature in the wider Lake Balaton - North destination: the interactive exhibition at the Pannon Csillagda in Bakonybél explores space travel and astronomy. The Levendula Ház focuses on the formation of the Tihany Peninsula and lavender cultivation; it also has a craft workshop and a hands-on garden. The Herend Porcelain Museum presents a permanent exhibition and changing exhibitions on the history of the manufactory. In workshops at the Herend Porcelain Manufactory, visitors can handle porcelain clay and a brush for painting.
