Csodabogyós Cave: Stalactites and a Woodland Trail

Csodabogyós Cave lies on the eastern edge of the Balatonederics Plateau. It is more than six kilometres long and features rich stalactite formations. The 20 × 20-metre “Függőkert” (Hanging Garden) chamber contains dozens of human-sized stalagmite columns and thousands of stalactites.

The cave entrance is not accessible by car. From the starting point, it takes about 40 minutes to walk through the forest of Balaton Uplands National Park to reach the cave. The temperature inside stays around 9.5°C year-round, with relative humidity at 100 per cent. The cool temperature is a useful point of reference when preparing for your visit.

A Nature Trail Between Balatonederics and Balatongyörök

The Pele-Apó Nature Trail was created for children. Its 38 stations cover 8.5 kilometres between Balatongyörök and Balatonederics. The trail passes through forest habitats and introduces their natural features. The information boards are in Hungarian and English. The trail offers a way to explore woodland habitats, while Csodabogyós Cave presents a different natural theme through its underground formations.

Museums, a Church and Local History

The Africa Museum is considered Balatonederics’ best-known attraction. It is surrounded by a small animal park, home to wild boar, a herd of buffalo, zebras and camels, among other animals. The animal population may change.

The Balatonederics Tájház (local heritage house) opened in 2010 and is considered the first open-air or local heritage museum of its kind in the region. Its first exhibition featured equipment used in viticulture and winemaking. The house includes an attic, indoor and outdoor ovens, and outdoor exhibition areas.

The Catholic church is dedicated to John the Baptist and is listed by the municipality as a nationally protected historic building. An earlier church with the same dedication was built in the 14th century, but no longer exists. Fekete Castle is also among the nationally protected historic buildings in Balatonederics. If the exact formal protection category matters to you, check its current classification.

Fishing Collection, Wine and Beach

The Bringatanya Fishing Collection illustrates the wildlife of Lake Balaton and displays equipment used for fishing. Visitors can scan QR codes for additional information and facts about individual exhibits.

A municipal description from 2016 says that Szabó Pince winery offered wine tastings on its terraces and wine with views of Lake Balaton and the surrounding mountains. Tastings were available by prior arrangement. The rural guest table described there included homemade cold platters and simple hot dishes cooked in a cauldron or oven. Confirm tasting dates and food options before your trip.

The notice listed daily opening hours of 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. During the scheduled opening period, the facilities were available to everyone for a fee. Check the current dates and hours before visiting.
