Culinary themes and a historically dated cultural event round out the picture. This makes it possible to view Bátya from different perspectives, from its townscape to its cultural connections.

Townscape and Cycling Route

The Danube Valley Canal, known as the Vajas, winds through the built-up area of Bátya. Its surroundings are not developed, but are well maintained. For those who also consider a destination’s landscape when choosing where to travel, it offers a distinct point of reference in the townscape.

A well-maintained cycling path connects Bátya with Kalocsa, providing a direct cycling link between the two towns. As the condition of the path may change, it is advisable to check its current condition before setting out.

Paprika and Culinary Themes

The local company Chili-Trade Kft. also houses a paprika museum with many special attractions. The paprika theme adds a distinct cultural accent to the landscape connection offered by the canal. If you would like to include a museum visit in your plans, check the current visiting arrangements in advance.

Bátya is also associated with a culinary competition centred on garlic. If you would like to plan your trip around this event, check the date that works for you. A specific past cultural event was the XXIV Rác Préló: On the evening of 12 February 2022, Bátya’s Croatian community and its guests celebrated at the village community centre (Faluház). This dated event adds a glimpse into the cultural life of the community to the culinary themes.

More Themes in the Wider Destination of Bács-Kiskun

The wider destination of Bács-Kiskun offers distinct cultural and nature themes in other specifically named locations. In Tiszaalpár, the Tiszaalpár, Földvár educational trail presents the history of the Bronze Age fortification of Tiszaalpári Földvár and the way of life of people in the Bronze Age. Tiszaalpári Földvár is a specially protected archaeological site in Bács-Kiskun; this designation was made under Decree 3/2003. (I. 25.) NKÖM. Another historical theme in Tiszaalpár is a reconstruction of an Árpád-era village, built to mark the millennium. It represents the settlement layout discovered during local excavations. The presentation of Bronze Age history and the depiction of a discovered village layout thus offer different historical perspectives there.

In Bugac, the Boróka educational trail is 1,100 metres long and features information boards and interactive stations, such as a forest xylophone and a play telescope. At Lake Szelidi, another educational trail focuses on the lake and its surroundings: twelve information stations cover the lake’s development, the properties of its water, the organisms that live there and the wildlife of the surrounding area. Lake Szelidi is a natural oxbow lake that developed from a branch of the Danube after the Ice Age. The educational trail about blue-green algae at Lake Szelidi is accessible year-round on foot and by bicycle; local conditions may change and can be checked before your visit.
