Bács-Kiskun can be explored through a range of travel interests: Bronze Age history, lace art, and nature trails sit alongside museums and visitor information. The places below offer different ways to experience history, craftsmanship, and nature—as a nature trail, museum, or visitor center.

Archaeological history in Tiszaalpár

The Tiszaalpár, Földvár nature trail presents the history of the Bronze Age fortification of Tiszaalpári Földvár and the way of life of people in the Bronze Age. Tiszaalpári Földvár is a specially protected archaeological site in Bács-Kiskun; it was designated as such under Regulation 3/2003. (I. 25.) NKÖM. The history of the site and the protection status of the archaeological site are therefore presented side by side.

A reconstruction of an Árpád-era village was built in Tiszaalpár to mark the millennium. It depicts the settlement layout discovered during local excavations. The two historical focuses are distinct: the nature trail is devoted to the Bronze Age, while the reconstruction represents an excavated settlement layout from the Árpád era.

Halasi lace in Kiskunhalas

At the Kiskunhalasi Csipkeház and Csipkemúzeum, you can learn about the history of Halasi lace, which began in 1902, admire centuries-old lacework, and see how lace is embroidered. The Csipkeház was established as a workplace for lace makers to preserve the patterns, designs, and traditions of the world-famous Halasi lace. Both the finished lacework and its production and the preservation of its patterns are therefore part of the experience.

Museum and nature information in Kecskemét

Two institutions in Kecskemét serve different purposes. The Cifrapalota currently serves as an exhibition venue for the Kecskeméti Katona József Museum. The Természet Háza is the visitor center of Kiskunság National Park. It provides information about the national park’s nature trails, visiting conditions for protected areas, the park’s ecotourism programs, and forest schools. Visitors can therefore choose between an exhibition venue and a visitor center with information about natural areas and the conditions for visiting them.

Nature trails and landscapes

The Boróka nature trail in Bugac is 1,100 meters long. Its features include information boards and interactive stops, including a forest xylophone and a play telescope. The route combines explanatory boards with stops where sound and observation play a part.

Lake Szelidi is a natural oxbow lake that developed from a branch of the Danube after the Ice Age. The lake’s blue-green algae nature trail runs past twelve information stations covering the lake’s development, the properties of its water, the organisms living there, and the wildlife of the surrounding area. The trail is accessible on foot and by bicycle year-round; local conditions may nevertheless change. Check them before your visit.

The two nature trails have different focuses: at Lake Szelidi, the emphasis is on the development of the lake and its organisms, while the Boróka nature trail in Bugac combines information boards with interactive stops such as a forest xylophone and a play telescope. You can choose based on the topic that interests you most.

Another specific route detail concerns the Pásztormúzeum: it can be reached on foot from the Puszta Kapuja Information Center via a dirt track, about 1.5 km away.
