Churches and local history

The Reformed church stands in the town centre and is a protected monument; the Catholic church is also protected. Foktő’s first Roman Catholic church was consecrated in 1757.

There are also three carved wooden statues in the town centre. They depict Magyarok Nagyasszonya, Árpád vezér and Teremtő Krisztus. These subjects provide another cultural point of reference in the town’s history.

Other historic features include the tájház (local heritage house) in Foktő, completed in 2019. A few old, locally carved grave posts (gombosfa) still stand in the cemetery.

More things to explore in Bács-Kiskun

The wider destination of Bács-Kiskun complements this local perspective with its own cultural and natural attractions. In Tiszaalpár, the Tiszaalpár, Földvár educational trail presents the history of the Bronze Age fortification of Tiszaalpári Földvár and the way of life of people in the Bronze Age. A reconstruction of an Árpád-era village, built to mark the millennium, depicts the settlement layout discovered during local excavations. The trail focuses on the fortification and way of life, while the reconstruction shows the structure of a settlement.
