If you’re looking for a hotel in Hill Country/Valleys, you can plan your trip around several themes: the Valley Pilgrimage Trail with its village churches and landscapes, local history, and cultural heritage sites in the wider area. For administrative orientation: the Hügelland-Täler Administrative Community jointly administers 21 municipalities in the Hügelland area and the valley villages.

Pilgrimage trail, churches and landscape

The Valley Pilgrimage Trail is just under 50 kilometers long and connects eight village churches in the valley villages region. Divided into seven stages, it passes through hilly countryside and small villages, some of them protected heritage sites, with half-timbered houses and cottage gardens. The route thus links the churches with a rural landscape.

One section starts at the church in Tröbnitz and leads to Untergneus; it is about five kilometers long. Compared with the full route of just under 50 kilometers, this is a shorter section that you can consider as a separate option when planning. Along the Valley Pilgrimage Trail, there are, among other things, shelters or rest stops in Tröbnitz. As route conditions can change, check them before setting out.

Local history in Tröbnitz

Tröbnitz is an arts and music village. The Tröbnitz Local History Museum opened in May 2005 in the former parish barn beside the church in Tröbnitz. The Tröbnitz and Surrounding Area Local History and Museum Association uses the rooms to display exhibits on local history. They illustrate the lives of ordinary people in the countryside in the past. These include a simple kitchen and tools used by woodworkers, coopers, basket makers and shoemakers. The collection offers a glimpse of domestic life and a range of crafts.

The museum’s well house displays archaeological finds from the 17th and 18th centuries. Tröbnitz also has a Bible garden and a walk-through labyrinth where visitors can pause for a moment.

Other points of interest in the region

Christian Ludwig Brehm, the “Bird Pastor,” and his son Alfred Edmund Brehm, the “Father of the Animals,” lived and worked in Renthendorf. Both promoted knowledge of animals and the environment among the people around them. Renthendorf is therefore associated with the sharing of knowledge about nature.

In Wolfersdorf stands the former hunting lodge “Zur Fröhlichen Wiederkunft,” a 16th-century building that features Renaissance and Neo-Gothic styles. In Trockenborn-Wolfersdorf, the “Herzog Ernst” forest swimming pool has more than 4,000 square meters of water surface. The area offers contrasting architectural highlights: the village churches and half-timbered houses along the pilgrimage trail represent its rural character, while the former hunting lodge in Wolfersdorf, a 16th-century building, combines Renaissance and Neo-Gothic styles.
