Eisenberg: Town History, Palace Gardens and MĂĽhltal
Accommodation in Eisenberg
Eisenberg offers several different ways to shape a stay: town history at the museum, an interactive rally and guided tours, as well as a historic garden, a Baroque church and a mountain bike trail in the MĂĽhltal valley. When planning your hotel stay, it helps to first distinguish between culture and town history on the one hand and a focus on sports on the other.
Experience town history in different ways
The “Klötznersches Haus” town museum explores the history of Eisenberg’s industries and associations. It also displays historical artefacts from the duchies of Saxe-Eisenberg and Saxe-Altenburg. The museum therefore brings together the town’s history and that of the two duchies: industry and association life provide the local context, while the historical artefacts broaden the focus to include the duchies.
An interactive town rally for the whole family takes you to places connected with Eisenberg’s history and uses the Actionbound app. Guided tours on the town’s history are offered in Eisenberg by prior registration through the Eisenberg Information Office; they last between one and one and a half hours. The formats differ mainly in how they convey the history: the rally uses the app, while the guided tour can be planned as a registered appointment with a stated duration. You can therefore weigh up the rally and the guided tour when planning the cultural part of your stay.
Palace gardens and Baroque church art
Eisenberg Palace Gardens are an outstanding monument to garden art in Thuringia and are protected as a historic garden. The arched garden is at least 300 years old; its basic features have been preserved to this day. The tree garden was laid out in the 19th century. These different dates reflect two historical layers of the grounds: the old arched garden, whose basic features have been preserved, and the tree garden, laid out later.
The palace church in Eisenberg offers a different art-historical focus: it is a Baroque transverse church with stucco work and paintings. While garden art and its history are at the heart of the palace gardens, the church showcases architecture, stucco and painting. Together, the two sites offer different ways to explore art and history in Eisenberg.
Mountain biking in the Eisenberg MĂĽhltal
Trailorado is the first official mountain bike trail in the Eisenberg MĂĽhltal. This adds a distinct sporting focus alongside the cultural and historical themes. You can use this distinction when planning your stay: the town museum, palace gardens and palace church are all about history and culture, while Trailorado is for mountain biking. The guided tours also have a specified duration of one to one and a half hours; the interactive rally uses the Actionbound app.
