For a stay in Heilshoop, the village’s history and Moor Pond provide clear points of reference. The village has more than 800 years of documented history; the Moor Pond is part of its village character. Cistercian monks created the pond in the 12th century.

Moor Pond, History and the Seasons

In summer, Heilshoop’s Moor Pond has a public bathing area for swimming in warm weather; in winter, the pond is used for ice skating. The time of year therefore makes a practical difference: in warm weather, swimming at the bathing area takes center stage, while in winter, the pond is used for ice skating. Since conditions for seasonal activities can vary, it is advisable to check them before your visit.

Paths and Connections

There are different points of reference for planning your trip. A shared pedestrian and cycle path runs through Heilshoop along LandesstraĂźe 71. Public transport connects to Reinfeld and LĂĽbeck. Check connections before traveling, as services may change.

Stormarn as Additional Regional Context

The wider destination of Stormarn adds cultural, nature and cycling themes to the village-focused experience. Stormarn is located in the Hamburg Metropolitan Region between Hamburg and LĂĽbeck and is well suited to day trips. Regional highlights include numerous castles and manor houses.

Ahrensburg Castle was completed in 1585 and has served continuously as a museum since 1955. Reinbek Castle was built between 1572 and 1576 in the Dutch Renaissance style, extensively restored, and serves as a cultural and communications center in Reinbek. The two castles offer different highlights: Ahrensburg brings together architectural history and many years of museum use; Reinbek combines a named architectural style with a cultural function.

Nature trails are also among Stormarn’s attractions. Hahnheide is Stormarn’s largest nature reserve and offers extensive hiking opportunities. In Reinfeld, the “Around Herrenteich” nature trail is a 4-kilometer circular route with 16 stops, right on the edge of the “Upper Herrenteich” nature reserve. The lakeside promenade at Herrenteich has two water terraces and additional seating areas; a 3.6-kilometer circular route goes around the Lower Herrenteich.

For cycling, Stormarn has more than 20 circular cycling routes, as well as BahnRadWege (rail trails) along the routes of three former railway lines. The “Post Train Robbery on the State Railway Line” mystery trail combines a bike ride on BahnRadWeg B with a puzzle-solving experience and a fictional investigation into a historical post train robbery.

Another regional themed trail starts at the old Blumendorf railway station near Bad Oldesloe: the fruit and tree trail. More than 160 standard fruit trees grow along the route, including apples, pears, cherries and plums. Depending on the season, visitors can sample the different varieties.
