When looking for a hotel in Oststeinbek, you can use your interests as your first filter: cycling and country lanes sit alongside historical and cultural points of interest. Oststeinbek lies on the outskirts of Hamburg; together with its location, its open and wooded landscape is considered particularly well suited to recreation. Whether you prefer to follow a signposted route, explore longer paths or learn about the town’s history, each option gives your stay a different focus.

Cycling on signposted routes

Six signposted cycling routes connect everyday destinations with places for leisure. One of the routes links Boberg, Oststeinbek town centre and Lake Ă–jendorfer. As well as a network for everyday and leisure use, this gives you a route with specific, named landmarks. If you plan to use this route, check the signage on site before setting off, as the route infrastructure may be updated.

Open fields and paths through the countryside

The Havighorster Feldmark, along with other paths through fields, woods and meadows in Oststeinbek, is frequently used by cyclists, horse riders, joggers and walkers. The Feldmark is considered suitable for longer walks and cycling trips towards Glinde and Reinbek. Connections to Hamburg’s green belt offer further ways to explore the surrounding area. While the six cycling routes link everyday and leisure destinations, the Feldmark is characterised by longer paths and a variety of uses.

Local history and culture

The first documented mention of Oststeinbek dates to a document from 29 April 1255. The Church of the Resurrection marks a later architectural period: it was dedicated in 1966 and designed by architect Olaf Andreas Gulbrandson. The church is a spiritual space for reflection, renewal and meditation. The burial mound is the only visible trace of early settlement activity in Oststeinbek and Havighorst. Six burial mounds were discovered in the area, but only one is still visible. This burial mound was designated a protected monument on 15 July 1988. A date from the written record and a visible archaeological find thus stand side by side. The local children’s theatre presents a Christmas play in standard German. As the programme may change, check the dates in advance if you would like to include this performance in your travel plans.
