When exploring Hamfelde, the Hahnheide, historic routes and local history offer concrete points of interest. The Hasenberg forest car park in Hamfelde serves as a starting point for hikes in the Hahnheide. The Waldeslust inn is also located on the edge of the Hahnheide in Hamfelde and serves as a terrace stop for cyclists.

Hiking in the Hahnheide

The Hahnheide is Stormarn’s largest nature reserve. Its predominantly hilly landscape features small valleys, streams and hollows. A family-friendly outing from the forest car park in Hamfelde includes three short circular routes, each about three to four kilometres long. If you want to reach the Langer Otto observation tower, the tower trail can be shortened. From there, you can enjoy a view across the entire Hahnheide. You can choose from several short circular routes as well as a shortened option to the viewpoint.

Historic routes and Hamfelder Park

Nearby Hohenfelder Damm is a paved road dating from the 18th century and is a listed monument; the Sommerweg runs alongside it. The Sommerweg through the Hahnheide is the unpaved section of a protected historic road dating from the 18th century. Pay attention to the surface: here, the paved road; there, the unpaved Sommerweg.

Hamfelder Park was laid out as the garden of an estate after the mill ceased operating. Albert Ballin purchased the Hamfelder Park estate in 1906. If you are interested in local history, Hamfelder Park offers a glimpse into the creation of the park and the history of the estate.

Waldeslust in Hamfelde

Waldeslust has been in Hamfelde since 1873. If you are interested in animal husbandry, the establishment keeps Galloway cattle, Duroc pigs, Moorschnucken sheep, ducks, chickens and geese in conditions that meet their needs. Waldeslust also raises trout and carp in its own spring-water and pond facilities. A 24-hectare animal enclosure borders Waldeslust. The grounds also include a children’s playground. Together with the terrace as a stop for cyclists, these features give a concrete impression of the different things to discover here.
