Nottfeld: Moorland, Christianslyst and trails
Accommodation in Nottfeld
Nottfeld combines a landscape shaped by fields, woodland and moorland with Christianslyst and trails in the surrounding area. You can focus your plans on different things: nature and landscape, outdoor activities, or a stay with a larger group at Christianslyst. You can also include travel via Süderbrarup in your preparations.
Landscape and Schukjer Moor
Nottfeld’s landscape includes woodland and field edges, hedgerows, wetland habitats and small groves. Half of Schukjer Moor lies in Nottfeld. A 13-hectare remnant of raised bog there is the focus of nature conservation measures, including the restoration of the water level. The moorland, groves and open field edges give the surrounding area a variety of landscape features.
Christianslyst is in Nottfeld, amid Angeln’s hilly landscape between the Schlei and the Flensburg Fjord. The Schlei is about five kilometres from Christianslyst. This means the surrounding area brings together a landscape clearly shaped by farmland and woodland, and the Schlei as a distinct point of reference.
Christianslyst: history and group stays
Christianslyst was once a royal hunting estate. The current building was constructed in 1969; between 1969 and 1970, most of the older buildings were replaced by the present complex. The site is primarily geared towards larger groups and has 140 beds. It also has facilities for lessons, workshops and lectures.
The outdoor grounds include sports facilities for football, handball, volleyball, beach volleyball and pétanque. Christianslyst also has a heated swimming pool. Its opening hours depend on the season and may change, so check them for your travel dates. The group and sports facilities described here offer practical points to consider when coordinating your plans with others.
Walking, cycling and route highlights
The area around Christianslyst offers opportunities for walking and cycling. Bikes can be arranged through the staff at Christianslyst. Canoes can also be rented for trips on the Schlei. This lets you choose between trails through the landscape and a trip on the water, without confusing the separate offerings.
One route leads to Norderbrarup and the St. Mary’s Church there. It also passes the ring-shaped burial mound Kummerhy; its northern continuation runs past Thorsberger Moor. Near Nottfeld, the route leaves the track and leads through the wooded areas of Peters and Kuhholz. The waypoints mentioned therefore include woodland, a moor, a burial mound and a church.
Travelling via Süderbrarup
The regional train on the Flensburg–Kiel line runs hourly and stops at Süderbrarup station. From there, bus routes 605 and 610 run to Nottfeld. The Christianslust stop is also a useful point of reference for Christianslyst: from there, it is a 500-metre walk to Christianslyst. Since timetables and bus routes may change, check connections before travelling.
Schleswig-Flensburg as a regional context
In the wider Schleswig-Flensburg destination, Haithabu and the Danewerk have been UNESCO World Heritage Sites since June 2018. More than 25 kilometres of the Danewerk rampart still remain today. Alongside its nature and landscape, this gives the wider region a distinct cultural and historical focus.
