Jevenstedt: Moorland, rolling hills and blacksmith museum

Jevenstedt offers several distinct reasons to stay: hiking and cycling in a hilly landscape, a circular trail through restored moorland, historic craft equipment, a seasonal outdoor pool and the chance to watch seagoing ships on the Kiel Canal a few kilometres to the northwest. Rolling hills, woodland and moorland

Nienkattbeker Schweiz offers opportunities for hiking and cycling. The landscape is hilly, with ancient woodland and scenic views. The Wild Moor offers a different setting: a circular trail leads through restored moorland with cotton grass, peat mosses and birch groves. This gives you two distinct natural settings to plan your visit around: rolling hills and woodland on the one hand, and moorland vegetation and a circular trail on the other. Rare insects and amphibians, as well as migrating cranes, can also be spotted in the area. Check trail conditions and the likelihood of wildlife sightings locally.

Blacksmith museum and traditional crafts

The Jevenstedt Blacksmith Museum preserves a former smithy and wheelwright’s workshop. Its collection includes a complete blacksmith’s workshop, agricultural equipment, tools from traditional trades and historic household items. The building was first mentioned as a house and farm smithy in 1722. The collection also includes a functional piece of equipment from the volunteer fire brigade dating from 1888. Members of the local heritage association show children and young people how to use historic craft tools; visits and demonstrations are available by prior arrangement.

Outdoor pool and Kiel Canal

The heated outdoor pool adds a swimming option to the nature- and culture-focused attractions. It operates seasonally; check opening times and admission arrangements before your trip. The Kiel Canal lies a few kilometres northwest of Jevenstedt, where you can watch seagoing ships. Check local access points and viewing conditions for your visit.

Rendsburg-Eckernförde as a wider travel destination

Across the wider Rendsburg-Eckernförde travel destination, the district has a signposted cycle network stretching 1,000 kilometres and four nature parks. The 180-kilometre Nature Park Hiking Trail passes through all four parks; the district also has 55 kilometres of Baltic Sea coastline. Around 70 kilometres, or two-thirds, of the Kiel Canal runs through the district. These figures complement the local trails and landscape with a regional perspective.

Westensee-Obere Eider Nature Park is characterised by numerous groups of lakes in the Schleswig-Holstein Uplands. It includes Westensee, which covers around 7 km² and is a popular day-trip destination; the banks of the Eider in the nature park provide a habitat for kingfishers.

Culture also has its own point of interest in the wider travel destination: Rendsburg’s old town was established in the 13th century and is still characterised by medieval buildings. The Jewish Museum in Rendsburg is housed in Schleswig-Holstein’s oldest surviving synagogue and serves as both a historic monument and a memorial.
