Probsteierhagen combines village history with opportunities to spend time outdoors. If you are looking for a destination where historic buildings and trails through green surroundings offer different points of interest, the town has plenty to explore. You can plan your trip around culture, outdoor activities or a combination of both.

Village History and Buildings

Probsteierhagen is considered an old craft and farming village and was first mentioned in 1259. St. Catherine’s Church in the village center dates back to the 13th century; the altar area features stucco work. Hagen Castle was built in 1649 by Heinrich Blome as a three-winged brick building with stepped gables. The castle’s Blome Room features an impressive stucco ceiling. Hagen Castle is considered a restored cultural and events venue and is surrounded by a green park. The church and castle offer different architectural points of interest: the stucco in the church’s altar area contrasts with the brick building’s stepped gables and the stucco ceiling in the Blome Room.

Landscape, Trails and the Baltic Sea

The surroundings of Probsteierhagen include mixed forests, Lake Passade and the Kassee ponds. Local hiking trails, cycle paths and forest trails make it easy to enjoy walks, bike rides and other outdoor activities. The different types of trails offer ways to explore on foot or by bike, while the forest, lake and ponds each provide a distinct landscape. The Baltic Sea beaches and bathing spots are about eight kilometers from Probsteierhagen. Sea fishing trips on the nearby Baltic Sea offer another maritime option. Boat trips from Kiel, Laboe or Schönberg are also worth considering as an addition to a stay in the area.

Trails in the Probstei Region

The Probstei region has four signposted cycling routes. There are also viewpoints, dikes, harbors and rural trails suitable for walks or bike rides. Kilometers of surfaced, well-signposted cycling and hiking trails run through fields and meadows, through villages and past historic monuments, beaches and inland lakes. The regional trail network thus ranges from cycling routes to trails that can be explored on foot or by bike.
