Discover Brodersdorf: paths, trees and village life
Accommodation in Brodersdorf
Explore Brodersdorf along a variety of routes: on foot along a circular trail through fields and woodland, among trees and old fruit varieties, or by bike. Village events and a playground are among the other local options. This lets you plan your stay around the themes that interest you most.
Explore on foot: circular route and tree discovery trail
A circular route approximately four kilometres long leads through Brodersdorf’s fields and into the “Gruppen” woodland near the Hagener Au. The approximate distance gives you a guide when planning your day. The tree discovery trail has a different focus: it features 60 different tree species, whose variety you can discover along the way.
Information boards along the tree discovery trail explain tree species, the structure of flowers, and how wood and seeds are used. Other boards provide information about beekeeping and insect pollination in agriculture. The trail combines time outdoors with topics you can look out for as you observe the trees and their surroundings.
Orchard, wildflowers and bees
The Brodersdorf orchard contains several old fruit varieties and an insect-friendly wildflower meadow. Beehives stand along the orchard and the circular route. On sunny days, you can observe bee activity there. The orchard and the information about beekeeping thus complement the tree-related topics with further aspects of nature and agriculture.
You can buy honey in Brodersdorf as a souvenir. Local availability may vary; if you would like to take some honey home, check what is currently available.
Village life and family time
The Probsteier Koppeltor stands at the roundabout at the entrance to the village. It is a reconstruction based on a historical model and reflects Brodersdorf’s traditional description as the “Gateway to the Probstei.” Straw figures made for the Probsteier Korntage are also displayed at the same roundabout. This gives you a first glimpse of local village character as you enter the village.
Events such as a late-morning gathering with live music take place by the village pond. The programme may vary depending on the season and year; check the dates before your trip. For families, the playground offers a low ropes course, climbing frame, slide and picnic area. As play equipment may change over time, it is worth checking the current facilities.
Arriving by bike or bus
From Brodersdorf, you can cycle to the beach and other municipalities in the Probstei. Bikes from the Sprottenflotte have been available for hire in the village centre since 2023. Check the current service status in advance before including the bikes in your plans. Bus connections link Brodersdorf with Kiel and Laboe; check the latest timetables for your journey.
On the cycle route from Laboe to Schönberg/Heikendorf, there is a parking and rest area with an e-bike charging station. It has bike racks, benches and a picnic table. Free parking next to the rest area makes it possible to start or finish cycling tours through the Probstei there. Before setting off, check that the infrastructure you need and the parking options suit your plans.
