Beach, pier and getting there

Grömitz offers two distinct focal points for planning your trip: its beach and its pier. The beach is eight kilometers long, has fine sand, and lies along a south-facing stretch of the Baltic coast. You can swim, take a walk, and relax in beach chairs there; cafés and pedal-boat trips are also among the beachside options. Beach services and safety arrangements may vary seasonally. If you’re planning your stay around the beach offerings, it’s worth checking which services are available during your travel dates.

Grömitz

By car, take the A1 exit for Neustadt-Pelzerhaken/Grömitz, then continue for about ten kilometers on the B 501. If traveling by train, use Neustadt/Holstein station and continue by local bus or taxi; this onward journey takes about 20 minutes. Check road routes and public transport connections before setting off.

The pier and seasonal boat trips

The 398-meter-long Grömitz pier has a sun deck, swivel chairs, climbing nets, a lighthouse slide, and an underwater observation gondola. Regular boat trips depart from the pier; these services operate seasonally. The pier’s permanent features are therefore complemented by excursions whose season is worth considering when planning your trip. If you’d like to take a boat trip, check the dates in advance.

Culture in the municipality of Grömitz

Cismar Monastery is located in the municipality of Grömitz, hosts changing exhibitions, and holds concerts in its vaulted hall during the winter half of the year. This adds a cultural focus alongside the beach and pier. The winter half of the year is particularly relevant when planning around the concerts; the exhibitions change.

Ostholstein: Culture and nature

In the wider travel destination of Ostholstein, cultural venues offer a range of different insights. Every summer, the Eutin Festival presents changing opera or operetta productions as open-air events. The Ostholstein Museum in Eutin features changing exhibitions as well as a permanent exhibition about Eutin during its heyday around 1800. Eutin Castle Museum is located right beside Lake Eutin and is surrounded by a landscaped garden.

The fishing heritage trail along the promenade in Haffkrug is also part of the wider travel destination of Ostholstein. Information boards and interactive features explain the area’s former fishing industry and the fish species of the Baltic Sea. The trail can be explored independently; at eight stops, QR codes provide access to stories and accounts from an audio guide. Here, the focus is on sharing the history of fishing, while Eutin’s offerings encompass art, museums, and a landscaped garden.

Nature also takes different forms in the wider travel destination of Ostholstein. The Eutin Lake Circular Trail runs partly right along the shore and partly along natural forest paths; along the way, it offers views of Eutin, the castle, and the castle gardens. On Fehmarn, a one-kilometer nature trail in the Wallnau Waterbird Reserve leads through the protected area. The lakeside circular trail and the path through the protected area therefore offer different ways to experience nature.
