Cycling and historic architecture are the main attractions for a stay in Struckum. The cycling routes vary in length and scenery; historic front doors, individually designed façades, and the Fortuna Mill provide tangible points of interest for these themes in the area.

Cycling and Historic Front Doors

The Ostenautal Route passes through Struckum and by historic front doors. Along the way, you can see individually designed façades. The route thus combines cycling with a glimpse of the built environment. Check the current signage and route on site.

The Söbenbargen cycling route, associated with Struckum, is 45 kilometres long. It passes through marsh and geest landscapes, as well as by historic burial mounds and front doors. The Fortuna Mill is a photographic highlight along this route. For comparison, the Beltringharder Route in North Frisia is 27 kilometres long and starts in Lüttmoorsiel. The two routes therefore differ considerably in length alone.

The Fortuna Mill

The Fortuna Mill is a protected monument and was built in 1806 in the cellar-hollander style. It is privately owned and a popular photo subject. The mill can therefore be seen both as a historic building in its own right and as a landmark along the Söbenbargen Route. Together with the historic front doors and burial mounds, it shapes the cultural side of the route description.

Swimming Area and Ferry Trips Nearby

Nearby excursions include the Lüttmoorsiel swimming area in Beltringharder Koog and ferry trips from Nordstrand to the islands and Halligen of the Schleswig-Holstein Wadden Sea. So, in addition to cycling tours, swimming and ferry options are available in the surrounding area. Before visiting, check current bathing conditions and ferry connections, as well as seasonal services.

The Wider Travel Setting: North Frisia

Beyond Struckum, North Frisia offers a broader landscape setting. The region has 441 kilometres of coastline. The five North Frisian islands in Schleswig-Holstein Wadden Sea National Park include Sylt, Föhr, and Amrum. North Frisia also includes ten Halligen, distinctive landforms within the national park. The North Frisian Wadden Sea is an official nature reserve and part of Schleswig-Holstein Wadden Sea National Park.

Nature and conservation activities are also part of the wider travel setting of North Frisia. The Schlüttsiel information centre features a natural history exhibition and offers guided tours about the Wadden Sea and nature conservation almost every day. In suitable weather, a guided walk along the sea dike follows. Visitors can observe a diverse bird population at Hauke-Haien-Koog. These regional opportunities complement the picture of Struckum’s cycling routes and buildings without equating their local character with the landscapes of North Frisia as a whole. Excursion boats from Schlüttsiel travel to the Halligen of Oland, Langeneß, Gröde, and Hooge, as well as to the seal banks.
