Two landscapes take centre stage when planning a trip to Almdorf: Haaks Forest east of the village and the North Sea, just a few kilometres away. Other destinations and activities in North Frisia provide a broader regional setting.

Haaks Forest and the North Sea around Almdorf

Haaks Forest lies east of Almdorf and covers around 96 hectares. The forest offers opportunities for long walks. The North Sea is just a few kilometres from Almdorf; in the Schleswig-Holstein Wadden Sea National Park, you can experience the tides.

North Frisia: coast, islands and culture

North Frisia has 441 kilometres of coastline. The five North Frisian islands in the Schleswig-Holstein Wadden Sea National Park include Sylt, Föhr and Amrum. North Frisia also includes ten Halligen, distinctive landforms located in the national park. The North Frisian Wadden Sea is an official nature reserve and is part of the national park. Culture may also be relevant when planning a trip: of all the districts in Schleswig-Holstein, North Frisia has the highest density of museums and the largest number of listed cultural monuments.

Ferries and guided activities in North Frisia

Ferries to the islands and Halligen depart from regional piers such as Ockholm-Schlüttsiel and Dagebüll. Excursion boats also run from Schlüttsiel to the Halligen of Oland, Langeneß, Gröde and Hooge, as well as to the seal banks. Check the timetable before planning your trip. The Schlüttsiel Information Centre has a natural history exhibition and offers guided tours about the Wadden Sea and nature conservation almost daily; in suitable weather, a guided walk along the sea dike follows. You can visit Südfall only as part of a guided tour: on foot during guided walks or with mudflat carriage drivers.
