Behlendorf is located in the Lauenburg Lakes Nature Park, right on Lake Behlendorf. The bathing area, village centre and church offer different ways to enjoy a stay here. The lake covers 70 hectares and is 15 metres deep at its deepest point. If you would like to combine a lakeside destination with a historic village centre, you can find both in Behlendorf.

Lake Behlendorf and the bathing area

There is parking, a sunbathing lawn and toilets at the bathing area. The seasonal Haus am See kiosk serves regional food and drinks there. As the kiosk is open seasonally, check its opening times before your trip. Stand-up paddleboards, rowing boats and other watercraft are prohibited on Lake Behlendorf and in the bathing area.

The small island in Lake Behlendorf also has special significance: it is a natural monument and may not be entered. Clear rules are therefore part of spending time by the water. Behlendorf and its surroundings are considered suitable for cycling, and Lake Behlendorf is also considered suitable for fishing. Check the local rules before fishing.

Village centre and Behlendorf Church

Restored houses, some with thatched roofs, stand in the village centre. Behlendorf Church offers another glimpse into the village’s history. Its nave was built from fieldstones in the 13th century. Inside are a Baroque altarpiece, as well as stained-glass windows and wall paintings. Some of the wall paintings date from the time the church was founded.

As part of the Open Churches programme, you are invited to enter the church for quiet reflection and contemplation. Together, the medieval fieldstone nave and the Baroque altarpiece offer a tangible insight into the church’s different design elements. If you are interested in local history, you can combine your visit to the church with a walk through the village centre.

Cycling, culture and getting around

Another way to discover Behlendorf is the mobile Tour de Grass. It runs from Lübeck to Mölln along the Elbe–Lübeck Canal and includes Behlendorf. The tour features stories and poems by Günter Grass, comparisons with his watercolours, and augmented-reality tasks. Check the app’s availability and content before your trip.

For travel by bus, route 8770 runs between Mölln and Lübeck on weekdays and stops in Behlendorf on Herrenstraße. Check the timetable before travelling. You can also find regional products at the farm shop in Hollenbek, a district of Behlendorf; availability and opening times may vary. The kiosk at the bathing area, by contrast, is seasonal.

The wider travel destination of the Duchy of Lauenburg

Beyond Behlendorf, the wider travel destination of the Duchy of Lauenburg offers another perspective on the landscape: 26 percent of the Duchy of Lauenburg district is forest, and the district includes 48 lakes. The Lauenburg Lakes Nature Park offers guided excursions with experts on the district’s wildlife and plant life, as well as its cultural history. If you would like to include these activities in your plans, check the dates of the individual excursions.
