Weinböhla brings together winegrowing, routes through wine country and historic sites. On 4 May 2026, the municipality confirmed its official status as a state-recognised resort. If you are looking for a hotel in Weinböhla, local themes can help guide your stay: cycling, viewpoints, and the history of wine and the town each offer a different focus. This makes it easy to plan your trip around your own interests.

Winegrowing and Views

Wine was already being grown in Weinböhla in 1513; winegrowing benefits from the climatically favourable south-facing slopes. Around 25 hectares of vineyard land are cultivated in the town. Müller-Thurgau, Pinot Blanc, Traminer, Pinot Noir and Dornfelder grow on the terraces of the Ratsweinberg. Signposted routes lead to towers and vineyards and offer views stretching from the Meissen Elbe Valley to the Lusatian Mountains.

The Wartturm stands above the Ratsweinberg at an elevation of 211 metres above sea level and can be visited at any time of day. From there, the view framed by vineyards extends across the Elbe Valley from Meissen to Radebeul. This makes it easy to distinguish the view from the tower from the broader vistas along the signposted routes.

Cycle Routes and Trip Planning

The “Around Weinböhla” cycle route is a 29.95-kilometre circular route of moderate difficulty that begins and ends in Weinböhla. It connects the Zentralgasthof, St Martin’s Church, the Peterkeller, the Wartturm, the König-Albert-Turm, the Friedensturm, the Wolfsdenkmal, the Jungernbrücke and the Fuchsberg. This makes it possible to combine a bike ride with several local cultural and viewpoint stops.

Weinböhla also has cycle routes linking to the Elbe Cycle Route; the Saxon Wine Trail passes through the town. The circular route’s starting point can be reached by regional trains RB 31, RE 15, RE 18 and RE 50, as well as buses 411, 421 and 403. Check transport details before travelling. The seasonal excursion bus M connects Meissen, Weinböhla and Moritzburg from April to October; its bike trailer can carry up to 16 bikes. Timetables may change, so check them before your trip.

Local History and Special Places

The local history museum in the historic Peterkeller winery showcases the history of the town and winegrowing, as well as changing special exhibitions. The winery complex dates back to 1622, and the museum’s half-timbered main building to 1794. More than 600 historical objects are on display there. The historic town centre has retained the layout of a Rundling, a circular village; at Kirchplatz, the Zentralgasthof’s historic ballroom is part of the culturally significant ensemble of listed buildings.

The village pond also shapes the townscape: it is part of a park through which the uncovered Gabenreichbach stream flows. Together with the historic town centre and the places along the cycle route, it offers a distinct perspective on Weinböhla that takes in not only wine country and outdoor activities, but also the town’s built and local history.

Another Activity

At VELOCIUM, the asphalt pump track is used for balance training and can be used in almost all weather conditions. VELOCIUM offers historic bicycles to try out on an outdoor course. The pump track and course offer a different focus from the circular route: here, it’s about balance and historic bicycle models; the route, by contrast, is a longer ride through Weinböhla and past the sites mentioned above.
