Klipphausen: Mills, Mining and Hiking Trails
Accommodation in Klipphausen
Trails and Cultural History in Klipphausen
If you are planning a hotel stay in Klipphausen, you can organize your visit around two themes: trails through valleys and destinations connected with the history of mills and mining. The routes vary in landscape and purpose—from a pilgrimage route and a geological educational trail to a hiking trail with poetry stations. The following places and trail features can help you tailor your stay to the topics that interest you.
Valleys and Trail Routes
The Constappel–Klipphausen–Röhrsdorf–Constappel route runs through the Saubach Valley to Klipphausen and returns through the Regenbach Valley. The Triebischtäler route offers a different focus: it follows a protected valley landscape with sparse development in the Triebischtäler Landscape Protection Area. The Triebischtal Geotrail is designed as a geological and mining-history educational trail.
If you hike the full Triebischtäler route, it is recommended that you take public transport back, as only small parking areas are available at the endpoints. The trail begins at the Buschbad bus turnaround in Meißen and ends at Rothschönberg Castle; bus services make it possible to return to the starting point. Include this return journey in your plans.
Pilgrimage Route and Literary Stops
The Wilde-Saubachtal route is part of the Saxon Way of St. James from Königsbrück to Wilsdruff. It runs between green meadows and hillside woodland, alongside a gravelly stream with vegetated banks. Neudeck Mill is a country inn and also a hiking-trail junction on the route. Here, a pilgrimage route and a named landmark come together.
The Wulf Kirsten Hiking Trail begins at the quarry in Klipphausen. Poetry stations along the trail invite you to read and reflect, giving the hike a literary focus. Part of the route can be covered as part of guided alpaca hikes. Free parking for the trail is available at Klipphausen Castle or at the Klipphausen hiking car park.
Mills, Mining and World Heritage
A historic mill on the Constappel–Klipphausen–Röhrsdorf–Constappel route dates from around 1700 and can be visited annually on Mill Day. Klipphausen’s cultural heritage also includes the portal of the Rothschönberg Main Adit. This connects Klipphausen with the UNESCO World Heritage Site Erzgebirge/Krušnohořà Mining Region.
Schulze Mill is considered Germany’s smallest walk-in watermill that still produces flour. The Old Miltitz Limestone Mine presents the history of limestone and silver mining in the 19th and 20th centuries; the mine also provides a venue for concerts and other events. Mills and mining are therefore standalone themes for planning your stay, alongside the hiking trails.
